Hi all,

I've been searching for some new LED downlights that can be covered with insulation, however I've recently noticed that the ratings (CA, IC, IC-F) appear to refer only to 'fixed insulation' ie pink batts or similar, does anyone know of LED downlights that can be covered by 'loose insulation' ie blown in wool?

Cheers

Don't really know. I have loose fill wool and pink batts, as the wool compacted and lost effectiveness. Putting pink batts over the top definitely made the house warmer.

Suggest you get a few sheets of fixed insulation (maybe from the wreckers, or buy a single pack) and move the wool away from the down lights.

No.  Loose fill clogs up the heat sinks and is unlikely to every be approved for LED fittings.  Pink batts can be used abutted to LED fittings (and covered, if tested).  Just place pink batts where the light fittings are.

You can never have enough Volvos!

I put plastic buckets over the light and laid insulation up to the bucket.

Surrounding something electrical with non fire retardant plastic seems crazy to me.
