We have just bought our first home in Christchurch, and it had an old rotting away standalone single garage. So we have pulled it down and now we are preparing to rebuild it up and extend it to a double garage with extra storage at the back. Does anyone know what is a better and cost effective way to build a new garage? and do anyone know what is the normal rate to get someone to design and draw up a drawing to present to city council for consent? I have got structural engineer that charges $2000 to design and draw, is that a reasonable price?

I have got a decent builder that has done a really good job in replacing my balcony, and I'm thinking about getting him to build my new garage! but just need to get a drawing and consent ready first...
