JB is once again doing the "COST+GST" thing. The 60cm Delonghi DEDW645S is only $625, plus $100 for total 5 years warranty. It seems too good to be true for a mid-spec/good brand machine.

It has SS body, 3 spray arms, 3 trays, auto sensor wash, half load option. I almost decided to buy one.

Then I found the door is not centered, and the hinges are a little bit too flimsy, more so than other models beside. And a few minutes internet research returned that Delonghi sells "major kitchen appliance" only in Aussie and NZ, not the rest of the world. At least the dishwasher is OEMed by Chinese Midea then re-branded. That being said, Midea is not bad at all, in fact it is the best/biggest small appliance maker in China. Breville is also using some Midea OEMs. But Midea is NOT specialized in "major appliance". (Haier is.)

So I gave up. :D

5 years for a dishwasher at $700 dollars is pretty good. Just over $100 a year. The problem though is the hassle if it isn't reliable. You probably aren't paying that much more for a premium brand though, which should have better CGA protection, where you then shouldn't need to buy an extended warranty.

I'm not against Midea OEM. But at least the display model doesn't give the impression of good build quality, the door hinge is somewhat too flimsy.

Yes the $725 total cost is very good.

Get the Bosch with the cutlery drawer - it's the silver low and mid priced one, possibly others. Fantastic tool.

20 years and counting on our Miele dishwasher. We thought it's number was up a month or so ago when it started failing to fill with water, but a quick internet search and a trip down to the Irrigation Warehouse for a new solenoid valve ($70 fix versus $300+ for original part) soon got things back to normal.

The reason we invested in a Miele in the first place was through talking with the appliance repair team who were part of the company I worked for at the time. Their comment was that they only ever saw Miele machines that were 20+ years old that came in for new seals. Their advice has been accurate.

(PS - I'm in no way associated with Miele, although we do have a few of their products around the house now!)

$100 for an extended warranty? does this give me better rights than the consumer guarantees act? I'd expect a piece of whiteware to last 10 years at least not 5.

The CGA looks at the value of the goods, quality and brand. So lower quality , lower value goods can't be expected to be as durable and last as long as high quality , top branded, high value goods. It is a case by case thing. I still think any dishwasher should last longer than 5 years, and you probably shouldn't need an extended warranty if purchased for personal use. But you may struggle more to argue a case with a cheap goods, than expensive quality goods.
