I would like to get some advices about getting one of those home CCTV surveillance kit. There are lots on the market but I have no idea which one to get.

1. I prefer a wired one instead of wireless camera but it doesn't really matter if huge price difference.

2. I need one which I can monitor the real time video through my cellphone/ipad

3.The most important, which can be connected to my local NAS and store all my surveillance data there as the main or second storage (I don't wanna use cloud unless it is free. I just wanna pay a one-off price for the system, not any monthly subscription otherwise I will get a Morepork system instead).

I don't know if I need to get a DVR or NVR system. Can't really tell what's the advantage of each system really.

And where is the best place to get one?

Any advice would be appreciated. Need to get one soon.

Have you looked at Unifi gear? my olds have just got a couple of the G3 cameras. PoE, installation was a breeze, can be set to always record, motion record or just monitor.  Has the ability to monitor in real time through their app (free).  Can record to their NVR or set up your own using their software.  I'm looking at getting some it myself now that I've set it up for them.

What software does your NAS run?

The likes of Synology have their Surveillance Station license which does all the indexing of footage to make it easy to find. Hook that up with some Hikvision or Dahua cameras and you have a very good home solution. If your NAS doesn't support a proper "NVR" type software and you need to rely on just simply FTP or something these cams will do that too.

Unifi is a good software solution too but their cameras are really quite average when compared with Hikvision or Dahua.

Depends how much work you're prepared to put in.  The Hetgear Arlo's are battery driven and last for 5-6 months, no wiring and they do work, with some limitations.

if you're prepared to put out the Ethernet wiring, I happen to have 3 x Hikvision cameras (one is a PTZ camera) and an NVR sitting unused at home if you're interested.  I'm in Wellington and hadn't thought about pricing but if interested drop me a line.

A NVR or DVR are recorders, typically for IP (NVR) or analogue (DVR). Since you want to record to your NAS you don't need or want either.

Assuming you have a Synology or QNAP both have CCTV software for them. I won't go into the pros and cons of it vs a dedicated NVR but you can pretty much use any cameras that are compatible with the NAS hardware you have.
