Hello everyone, I am wanting to start some projects around the house, including a deck out the back. I am wanting a slide compound mitre saw but am on a strict budget. I have seen the 305mm saw at Trade Tested for only 430. But I cannot find any reviews of any of the Flash saws. I dont know if I want to risk it or just get the Black+Decker 255mm from Mitre10 for $330 as this has some good reviews. I would prefer a 305mm saw as it will allow me to cut more variation in sizes. I have also seen such brands as Ingo and Ken.If anyone has used one of these please let me know.$

Would recommend the Ozito range from Bunnings. No issues for me.

I bought one of these to use on my house renovations and it's been pretty bullet proof.

I've since been using it for some carpentry (furniture projects) and it's accuracy isn't up to the standards of the Hitachi I have ended up borrowing from a friend. Specifically on the compound cuts, the angle gauges aren't accurate enough for me.

I'd buy the tool shed saw again if I needed to, but I wouldn't consider it a high tolerance machine without quite a bit of fine tuning.

As above the accuracy is one of the biggest issues, they are close enough for decks and framing and stuff like that but not always good enough for interior finishing work. YMMV.

Thanks for that, I have just found a Ryobi 305mm slide saw at Bunnings for $499 and have found some good and some bad reviews. It might be good for my first one.

If I only had $300-500 to spend on a mitre saw I would definitely go 2nd hand. I'd much rather a higher end saw 2nd hand than a low end saw new.

I have one of the Mitre 10 Black and deckers and have used it on and off for the last 10 years. Amazing that the price has remained so consistent though, as I paid $300 for it 10 years ago!

As above, the cheaper saws are ‘good enough’ and last well, but the angles and especially compound angles are ‘roughly accurate’ and need time and experience with your particular saw to work out how to offset the measurements to get the right result.

I’d definitely go Black and Decker over Ryobi in the cheaper brands though if it’s fine detailed work you may well do better with a quality brand second hand. Saw blades are pretty cheap (around $30-50) and easy to swap out too...
