We have 3 heatpumps. 2 Mitsubishi and 1 Panasonic. I have issues with all 3 that sometimes I press something like the power button, the heatpump will beep to indicate it got input but nothing happens. If I press it a second time without moving the remote at all, it suddenly actions the request.

Given it's 3 heatpumps and 2 brands I am unsure what to believe is happening?

Do you have any other controls or automation? Heat pump remotes don't say "increase temp one degree" they send the current state. If you have other controls you can get inconsistent state.

For example if the heat pump is turned on by automation the remote still thinks the heat pump is off. If you use the remote and hit the power button it turns it on, but it's already on. So it beeps but nothing happens.

It's probably not that, but worth considering just in case.

They have the Wifi control, but we don't use it much. The Panasonic doesn't have it. So in answer to the question, no.

Probably a stupid question but have you put new batteries in the remote?

Sorry for that but you’d be surprised how often a ‘fault’ is a flat battery.
Interesting though, I wonder if there is something interfering with the infrared signal but they wouldn’t all be in the same room and they are different brands.

I am wondering if you have something wrong with your power supply, for higher load devices like this. DO they have a manual control on the units that turn them on, and does that work perfectly?

Check the LCD on the remote before pressing the button to see what it says.

Heatpump remotes don't normally send simple button presses to the unit, they send a new configuration. If the unit is off, and the on/off button is pressed, then a config is sent that is on/temp=24/heat/whatever else. Press the button again and off is sent.

If unit is off, but the button has been pressed on the remote to turn on, but the remote is covered up (say drop a book on the remote), the remote sends an on config that the unit doesn't get. So the unit is off, but the remote thinks it's on. If you then pick the remote up and press the power button, the remote sends an off config to the already off unit. It responds with a beep because it got the new config and does nothing because it was already doing that config (off).

We had the same ‘issue’ until we realised that comms between the remote and the unit is one way, and there is no feedback from the unit to the remote that confirms the current status or that commands have been received.

Thats is why I prefer the wi-fi control. It’s 2-way control and no annoying beep. There mostly always a tablet or phone nearby to control it. I like to see the outside and inside temperatures which is not on a remote.
