Hi all,

I have a Simpson Atlas Apollo Ceramic cook top with one element that is very slow to heat. I'm sure the problem is not the regulator because I swapped it with another and it made no difference, so I think that means the problem must be the element itself. However I don't really understand the failure mechanism so am a little hesitant to buy a new one. So two questions then: 1. Can anyone give me some reassurance it is the element, eg is it a common problem, 2. Can anyone explain the failure mechanism?

Is it a dual cooking zone element? The 2 elements might somehow be operating in series. Which would cause them to behave as a single element that has a low wattage.

Another possible explanation, the high temp cutouts on the elements might be designed to switch the element to a lower power setting. And that switch has failed.

Did it previously work fine? Or has it always been like that?

Just a single, nah wasn't always like that, but probably happened a good year ago.

The switch you mention with the cutouts, is that the wee thing attached directly to the side of the element?

Can't help with the problem, but if your cookware is compatible induction elements are awesome.

i'd check thermostat. I had similar issue: slow to heat, can't adjust temperature, etc.

~$100 including call out fee fixed the issue.
