Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for a garage door opener that can be operated via smartphone (iOS preferred). I’m interested in something I can buy and attach ie. plug and play to my current garage door opener and works either with Bluetooth or wifi. Any advise would be much appreciated. Picture of my current garage opener attached for reference. Thanks all!

I’ve got a Garador with a GDO-9 Enduro fitted with their smart phone kit. This kit seems to be generic as I’m sure I’ve seen a dominator branded one too. Unsure how easy it is to plug and play (was fitted when installed) but wouldn’t be too hard given they sell the kits direct.

It worked really well right up till end of last year, where I stopped receiving push notifications, which I haven’t been able to rectify yet. I’ve tried a few things but looks like a full device reset might be in order.

I bought a wifi switch off trademe for about $50 and wired into the button on my existing garage door opener.

Now I can use the Ewelink app to open and close my garage door from anywhere. Worth considering if you have a simple wired button on your garage door opener. I'll try to find a link to the device in question. They are available cheaper of Ebay but I liked the convenience of buying locally with a suitable nz power supply.

My garage door (older than yours) is hooked to my wired alarm via the exposed terminals. If your garage door motor has the exposed terminals then you can build your own opener, or hook it to an alarm. Much cheaper than buying their wifi module.

just purchase the module from your garage door supplier. dominator and garadoor seems to use the same or very similar models of door openers

Best if you have a web camera on the setup / app. Even if the up/down force on the opener is set correctly, it'll probably still damage a car parked under the door. The optional IR beam safety sensors might save you, but then again they're a bit problem prone (dirt and dust - or alignment shifting).
