Interesting lurking on these discussions over the past few months. Lots going on.

Having given up on sky in favor of TiVo for free to air HD, Apple TV 4 (Netflix, bbc iPlayer and multi-country iTunes) my legal and paid for content selection is almost complete. I am now intending to use fan pass to access sky sport 1-4. However even though they are streamed, there is no time slip or 'whatch whenever' function. I suspect this is deliberate as Sky continue to protect legacy income. My question is ' are there good options for recording legitimately streamed content for later viewing?'

Whatever you come up with is likely to be a bit huckery. People making webrips carefully configure the machine with a selection of the screen being recorded, making sure not to click on anything or make the machine make a noise that might get recorded into the rip.

I guess a primary machine displaying the fanpass content full screen and a second machine with a Hauppauge hd pvr and something like media center could provide more of a PVR timeshift experience.

Even if for personal use only, as already pointed out you would probably be breaking the T&Cs of the service though.

Short answer - it is (easily) technically possible, but probably legally shady.

As per gbwelly's post, the best option is probably hardware rather than software. A laptop (or similar) with HDMI out to play the content, and something that can record off the HDMI. If they copy protect, which I don't know about as I have never used fanpass, you would need something to deal with the copy protection as well.

There are heaps of forums on the net where how to do this, and the hardware needed, is discussed in detail.
