A bit of a follow up from the 'let's talk about gout' thread on page 2.

About a year ago I started experiencing some discomfort on my knuckles and wondered if it was gout related. Got my uric acid level cheeked and it was 40 mmol/l which is borderline high.

Reading up on uric acid revealed some were looking closely at the relationship between fructose and high uric acid. It made some sense and also I had recently upped my fruit intake. Have spent the following year eating less fruit (perhaps two or three pieces max a day) and the pain in the knuckles has certainly dropped away.

I also got my uric acid test again just the other week and it came back at 33 mmol/l which is a good level according to many sources.

Also recently came across this article from Otago university that recommends cutting back on fructose for gout sufferers...

It just keeps rolling in - various studies linking high fructose (thus sucrose) consumption with a wide range of ailments.

Your link is clickable here

Some epidemiological information, some links to the genetics, some biochemical explanation for the mechanism tying (excess) fructose to uric acid levels.
How the hell was this all missed for so long?
(Especially when the disease was so apparently dietary related when historically referred to as "the disease of kings")
