A bit of a follow up from the 'let's talk about gout' thread on page 2.
About a year ago I started experiencing some discomfort on my knuckles and wondered if it was gout related. Got my uric acid level cheeked and it was 40 mmol/l which is borderline high.
Reading up on uric acid revealed some were looking closely at the relationship between fructose and high uric acid. It made some sense and also I had recently upped my fruit intake. Have spent the following year eating less fruit (perhaps two or three pieces max a day) and the pain in the knuckles has certainly dropped away.
I also got my uric acid test again just the other week and it came back at 33 mmol/l which is a good level according to many sources.
Also recently came across this article from Otago university that recommends cutting back on fructose for gout sufferers...
