I am looking for a good orthodontist in the Hutt Valley / Wellington for my 14y daughter.

She needs some correction to her teeth.

Do you have any suggestion regarding a good orthodontist in the area, and the type of treatment. THere are references to tranditional / fast braces / invisalign etc.

Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I asked the same question here.

We are currently using 'The Orthodontist' which is Dr Patel's fancy new place. So far his service has been excellent and I haven't felt any concerns about the whole thing. What no-one told me was how much demand is outstripping supply for Orthodontists in Wellington. What this means is if they offer you a slot a 10am on a Tuesday, you're probably going to need to sneak off from work to attend, -if you wait for the next 4:30 appointment you're probably going to be waiting 4 months.

Also I thought you'd go in for a scan, then come back for fitting. Nope, you go in for a scan and a first mold, then a consultancy, then a proper mold, then another visit for fitting.

I think dentists refer 'tween's for minor to moderate dental issues that would have been left in the past. eg, my son had an overbite of 9mm, wasn't even really noticeable but he now has braces to get this into alignment. I think it costs around $7000 all up. I suppose not that bad when it corrects him for life as long as he is careful.

it looks like things haven't changed since my son needed to see one in Rotorua 6-7 years ago , it was a 7 month wait to get an appointment and you hoped someone cancelled to get in earlier.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Bhavik Patel (The Orthodontist) has been great. He is very good both with the kids & parents. I highly recommend using him.

Demand is high for his services so you may need to be flexible with making appointments.

Do you already have a previous diagnosis? I was with an orthodontist for more than 15 years, my teeth look perfect, with the only difference that every night I must use a device for the lower teeth, so they will stay linear. It's what the deviated jaws cause.
