My wifes Audi Wagon would look a lot nicer if tinted I think, not to mention cooler.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a place that does a good job? My last few cars have been factory tinted, but prior attempts had been mixed by even reputable companies with the tint not going right to the edge, peeling away or having air bubbles of varying degree of severity.

I had heard that some tinting also assisted with acoustic suppression? Is this the case with tints available legally in NZ?

Isn't tinting , as well as being passe , also banned under the WOF rules?

no, you can go as low as 35% VLT on MA class vehicles (general car's etc) and as low 0% on the rear windows on goods service vehicles

We and friends of ours have consistently used A1 Tinting. They come to you and although Naveen's car isn't much of a looker, in my experience he does an excellent job and at a very fair price. I also like the look of the Huper Optik films far more than most 3M films.

What ever you do is make sure they test for VLT before applying and you're happy.

Some dodgy tints where done on my car (the muppets didn't allow for the factory lite tint) so was only 24% VLT and below WOF level had to rip them all out.

Where did you go for a WOF? Even VT don't do VLT for WOF unless its a sticker removal. Must have got a savage inspector

Tinacar is a premium and expensive (Overcharged IMO) service, The crowd in Wairau also own the mag and turbo next door.
When at a premium car dealership that sold lambos and everything else we would use Tint Pro or Autotintz

Only use 3M UV rated. I'd go 35% VLT all round the rears and ~75% on the fronts.

I had an Audi that had "factory" tints, which were apparently more than 35%. I got a warrant every 6 months for 3 years and my wife took the car for a warrant and it was failed and the tints had to be removed. I was not happy about that.

Sounds like unfortunate circumstance.

SunTek i would also recommend.

@Coil, assume you've met Nick @ autotintz before?

There is no such thing as a factory tint film.
Thats what the razor test does. JDM subaru outbacks and legacys had like 25% VLT but that was stained glass.

Yes the legal limit for car tints on a sedan is 35% and commercial vehicles you can go as dark as you like on the rear.

These guys are brilliant and do offer a mobile service, if you don't have a garage they do have several fitment centers around Auckland.
