SpoonNZ posted this in another thread, but I think it deserves it's own as it is a great deal even if you just get the credit card then cancel it to get the free $50 airpoints

https://www.americanexpress.com/nz/content/airnz-base-credit-card/. There's no annual fee, 50APD if you spend $300 within three months.

What's the catch on this card, aside from giving all your details to Amex?
Most airpoints cards ive seen required a ~$15k spend on them per year to make you earn more airpoints than the fee. This has none however.

doesn't appear to be any catch, no fee and $50 airpoints for free :-)

Most supermarkets IME take Amex without a surcharge - can be an easy way to rack up the rewards

That's good to know - I already have a higher earn rate on one of the other Airpoints CCs though :)

Might get one just to punish countdown for their no paywave on visa debit policy.

Wonder if it costs them more than the hassle of buying a redbull and a chicken with an Ernest Rutherford.

This promotion has been out since July when the card launched - I got my free APD$ August when I spent my $300.

I've also heard anecdotal reports from a couple of people of being offered for APD$ to stay after they rang to cancel their cards after getting the $50
