It appears that this post (and earlier posts from the same organisation) are not against the GZ FUG. I’m curious to know why.

The FUG says “Self-promotional and commercial posts are not allowed and will be removed” and “Any form of advertising will be removed and the poster may be banned”.

It appears that this is a US-based business and that the poster has joined GZ for the sole purpose of advertising on here and responding to queries on the ads - there are no other posts where the poster contributes to the GZ community.

I have no particular beef against this organisation but it just doesn’t seem right to me. If these posts are OK, I’m concerned that it’s the thin end of a wedge - what’s to stop GZ being overrun with ads of this type?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

If they're offering exclusive deals for geekzone members only that are significantly better than their "standard" offers I think it's fair enough...

unfortunately googling for "Racknerd special offers" leads loads of "exclusive" special offers in the past so I don't disagree with you @eracode, this is feeling a bit spammy, but I haven't really checked the deals they offer elsewhere.

@Racknerd - As above nothing against y'all, but one thing to keep in mind when posting deals in Bargains and Deals forum is that a lot of us have notifications setup straight to our emails, so it "sort of" ends up spamming a bunch of peoples inboxes and you may get some pushback.  You may be better off posting in one of the other sub-forums.

In my view the Bargains and Deals forum is for bona fide GZ members to alert other members to deals they have found (i.e. a community thing) - not for commercial businesses to advertise in.

If these ads are OK under the FUG, maybe the FUG needs to be amended to say “it’s OK for commercial advertisers to post deals exclusive to GZ members”.

Hey Guys,

Appreciate your comments and we totally want to play by the rules, Let me explain.

Yes RackNerd is base out of Upland California however myself is based in Auckland, New Zealand, i reached out to freitasm specifically explaining this and mentioned that we only wanted to post deals that would suit New Zealand in regards to connectivity and cost and not to spam, Hence why we post great deals exclusively on GeekZone when we felt we could offer that.  Geekzone in the past has personally helped me and have absolutely respect for the community hence why we only post deals that we think are significant. I myself am absolutely happy to comment and contribute in areas where there is value.

Because i have been in the infrastructure field for quite some time and I'm based in NZ, I'm more than happy to help anyone looking for solid hosting solutions.

Dave :)

Completely agree here.

Tend to agree, but at the end of the day this is not a democracy. :D  (and I actually appreciate the fact we have a BDFL who has final say - the FUG are just that - guidelines)

PS: Looks like we cross posted - cheers Dave, good to know :)

Haven’t seen you being an active GZ community member apart from infrequently in connection with your ads.

Wondering what this has to do with Chinese New Year??? Which of course is not 11.11.

Given that the OP doesn't seem to know the actual reason for their "sale", you have to wonder whether it's an actual sale.

Must be a singles day deal or maybe Fasching? ;-)

@eracode - I hear you but as @RackNerd are indeed posting some pretty darn good deals for the community we're allowing this. Please leave moderation to the moderators. RackNerd are also a rather big provider and did check with us before posting (hence the company flag on their username).
