My wife is at a conference in Dec 2018 that leads right into her Birthday. I thought I might surprise her by extending her stay and finding her a nice island with great snorkeling, ideally all-inclusive, that isn't wildly expensive. I'll stay home and look after the kids and give her a well deserved extra break.

Somewhere a little less rowdy would probably suit her better

Anyone able to recommend a place?

Cheers.

Lomani Island Resort is adults only, but may be more expensive. You could look at treasure island. The islands to the west of the mainland are good. Most of the resorts in Fiji don't feel like there's a lot of people there, other than maybe a few of the mainland ones with a lot of rooms. Coral Coast on the mainland is probably cheaper than the islands and quite nice.

This sounds like a risky surprise. I went to Fiji in December and had nice weather. On my return I was told I got lucky and could well have spent the entire time in the rain.

Will your wife have any friends with her? If I was away on a conference and my partner gave me a present to stay away longer on my own I don't think I'd be very chuffed.

We have stayed at the Hilton Double Tree.

It was awesome, though not really a place for snorkeling or long stays, it is a bit out of the way. A day trip to South Sea Island which is really close by is awesome. You need to get to Denarau, and from there you get the ferry to South Sea Island . I recommend going to South Sea Island for a whole day, and not one of those half-day packages. Great Snorkeling, and activities. They do lunch, and free bar access while you there. All Inclusive. Worth every cent IMO.

Agree that you should talk to her first, rather than as a surprise.

Not sure if you’re serious - but at least two others understood what I was getting at. Unless they’ve got the same affliction as me.

That's the Cook Islands, the conference is in Fiji. I'm afraid you've lost me.

Have just come back from Denarau/Castaway and it was fantastic. Castaway is 80 minutes by Ferry (40 by water taxi) from Denarau, idilic island, lovely bures, great staff, would recommend for a night or two.

Friends have been to Octopus Island in the Yasawas and rate that also, although bit farther to travel.

We did stop briefly at South Sea Island on the ferry trip to Castaway and that looked like a great day trip if staying in Denarau - not sure about accom options though on that wee island.

Sorry - as is often the case, I was just being a SA and didn’t really mean to cause confusion. Having been to many islands off the west coast of Fiji (albeit none of them very recently) and found some of them to be good, IMO none of them are as nice as Aitutaki. I know Aitutaki is in the Cooks and is not an option for Mrs N - sometimes SA’edness doesn’t work so well.

Sorry, snorkeling not really my thing. The rest of my family enjoyed it multiple times and said it was better than Raro (but i dont think that takes much beating - not that we went to Aitutaki)

The pool bar and beach lounger drinks service was faultless though :p
