Hi There!

Hard to believe considering features it is missing that Kiwibank have. Basics like:

1) Copy and Paste Account Number - Despite Requesting this years ago
2) Copy button for copying payee details from your statement display to the recipients
3) No clear account number in the account number field in case you make a mistake and want to clear the box.

Obviously they didn't look at Kiwibanks Site!

What were the voting criteria, or what got singled out as being good? The website is ok, but I really like the mobile app. I rarely use the asb site any more as the phone app is so good.

Agreed their mobile app is better, but their website, once bleeding edge is now hopeless. We moved banks to Kiwibank because ASB seem stuck. The Kiwibank move service is magic too.

I have a special dislike on how some topic emerge without any context around a rant. In two months anyone finding this discussion through a search will have no idea why the discussion started.

So here is some background information for future readers who don't have a crystal ball: Canstar names ASB top of online banks.

Next topics to show up without context get canned. Simple.

I use ASB. Same clunky interface for years, they just keep adding more top level features to it without making it more usable. Of course the whole thing is a work of genius compared to what ASB staff have to use in the branches. I use it for two things. Paying TradeMe sellers and checking balances and statements. Ok, that might be three things. None of them are very pleasant activities and all are far more time consuming than they should be.

I will consider a switch to KiwiBank.

It is a big problem because in two months time someone WILL search for "ASB BANK" and will find this post and will think it's relevant to them at that time - which we know it will not.

Once this is indexed (already is just minutes after the first post then people will get it as gospel.

Seriously, you have no idea how many people "browse by Google" instead of entering a URL in the address bar. The number of emails I get from people asking to repair their products, check their Vodafone/Telecom account (I get a few credit card numbers via email every month too to settle their phone bills!) is incredible.

Help these people with less "skill" than you by putting context around a rant. It costs nothing and helps everybody.

When I read the first post, I thought to myself "Best online bank... according to who? ASB? Consumer mag? A guy called Fred?"

Whats the problem with copy and paste on the site? it works for me when I have needed to copy the account number and other stuff just fine.

Try copying and pasting an account number into the account number box. It will populate the first box with the first 2 numbers and then stop.

Oh right, that. yeah its a bit annoying. Worse is that it advances field when you fill one but doesnt backspace when you backspace in the field it advanced to. I really hate javascript arsing up form operation.

Who's got accounts with most banks where they can rate them?

I've got a few, and would rate ANZs updated system pretty high, alongside kiwibanks. However kiwibanks signin system is poor, and I am not sure if it is as secure as some, such as Rabobanks which uses a passkey.

Westpacs and TSBs are pretty poor systems. Westpacs though is quite full features, just looks like it is from the year 2000

ASBs is Ok, but a bit dated. They have updated their share trading one, and I suspect their other one is due for an update soon.

What I do find strange though is that some won't allow you to have a password longer than 8 characters, and only use alphanumeric characters, which I don't think is all that secure these days. These days I use 15 character passwords , automatically generated with lastpass.

All of the online banking systems I have used have some letdowns security wise. ASB will only txt you a verification code if a payment amount is over a certain value. Kiwibank (unless they have changed their system since I left) Basically require to remember 4 different passwords. After you login they ask you to enter certain letters of a word you specified earlier. 1 of 3 possible words. Yet they allowed me to use the same word for all 3. I like ANZ the most (but they can still be improved) All they need to do is include the account number and and $ amount in the verification txt they send you. And send a txt for every payment. This means it would be possible to detect if your online banking session has been taken over by the banking trojan. And cancel the transaction.

Hopefully someone from ANZ is lurking.

Haven't used any of the other banks systems enough to comment on them.

Well you can set the limit to $1 so if will send you a NetCode for virtually any payments (unless your payment is less than $1 of course). Also, you can set "NetCode at logon" (cannot remember exact wording) so it will text you every time you log on.

And it is a free service for months now.

Kiwibank's authentication system is the best IMO. A customer number & password plus a sentence completion test is miles better than remembering to keep a stupid two factor authentication card/device with you.
