I'm having a crisis right now, and it's because of both Paypal and ANZ!!

So I was wondering, how to add my bank account, it just keeps giving me errors when I try to do it, and it's just a matter about my "ACCOUNT NUMBER"

So let's say my account number is "12-1234-123456-01", and when I insert both 10 digits from "34-123456-01" it doesn't activate it at all!

Instead, it just gives this error "

The bank information you have added is invalid or missing. Please try again.

  • You have entered an invalid Bank account number for a bank account in New Zealand. Please make sure the number contains no spaces, is in XXXXXXX-XX format and is between 9 and 10 digits.
  • You may only enter numbers for your bank account number"

There is also a hint which doesn't help at all "(9 or 10 digits with hyphen in 8th or 9th position. Please enter digits only and exclude any letters or special characters in your account number.)"

Someone help me out, please!

Do you specify a bank and branch? If so, that is the first 2 and 4 digits respectively.

I would try 0123456-01 (NZ Bank Accounts are 7 digits + 3 digit Suffix)

Hmmmm

I have managed to add ANZ before and didn't have any problems. Although I recall you may need to add three digits to the end one. Maybe it is an error at paypals end and you may need to contact support.

By adding three digits at the end, what do you mean?

Could you display an easy example? Thanks!

Pretty sure your account number is 7 numbers followed by either 2 or 3 numbers for the sub-account. So that explains why they want a 9 or 10 number entry. However as was previously stated the first 6 numbers preceding the other 9 or 10 are the bank and branch which should go somewhere.

xx-xxxx-1234567-00 or xx-xxxx-1234567-000

I just tried this and it seemed to pass validation OK.

My ANZ account number is aa-bbbb-ccccccc-dd; and in the Paypal screens I entered the following:

Bank Name: ANZ

Account Type: Checking

Bank Number: aabbbb

Account Number: ccccccc-dd

My brother has told me that he's been unable to enter a bank account for about six months on Paypal. He spoke to them on the phone the last time, and they couldn't see any issues at their end. He has a reasonable amount in there and can't think of any creative way of getting the funds out.

We've double checked his details, ASB, and tried mine (as we have the same surname) for BNZ, but nothing is accepted by Paypal, keeps saying 'could not be added at this time' or something like that.

Any thoughts?

We've tried the account variations above, checked the name on the accounts, tried Bank of New Zealand, Auckland Savings Bank instead of BNZ and ASB.
