I am trying to decide between the following TVs...since I have an insurance claim on my old Samsung PS58C7000, I can get one of the following to replace:

Samsung PS60E8000 vs Panasonic TH-P65ST50 - which is best?

I can get the Panasonic for approx $200 more....so am I crazy not to pay $200 cash on top to get a 5 inch bigger TV? Or is the Samsung such better quality?

Please help!!

The 65ST would be my pick...
The series 8 plasma seems to hang its cred on its smart TV functionality, not its picture performance.

Any cons to the 65ST?

So even if they were both the same size...sounds like the ST is better quality? My only reservation was that the 8000 Samsung is their top range product, whereas the Panasonic ST is not their top range...so I was worried I was getting an inferior TV just because I wanted a bigger set for only a little extra.

Are you sure about those prices? I see the P65ST50Z going for less than the PS60E8000.

You could get the P55VT50Z in the same price range. I don't think bigger is always better, especially with plasmas as the noticeable flicker on a panel larger than 55" could ruin it for me.

The only notable advantage associated with Samsung plasmas is they're more resistant to image retention.

The only plasma I've seen image retention on for quite some time is the 7 series Samsung plasmas...
And when I say image retention, I mean screen burn. Not only in retail stores, but at mates houses.

Flicker on plasmas larger than 55"?
Can you name some examples? I've seen one post on this forum that covers that off, and met one person in real life who can see flicker...

The only plasma I've seen image retention on for quite some time is the 7 series Samsung plasmas...

Not even the slightest hint of image retention on my Panasonic 50ST50. However my 55GT30 did experince Screen Burn.

i had a similar decision around xmas re the the samsung 59 plasma PS59D8000 vs the 55 pana vt

they also had very good reviews

i looked at both and was equally impressed

i ultimately decided on the samsung as i could get it cheaper + 4 inches bigger (size does count) - and it would also play nice with the samsung galaxy tab and phs - and i am as happy as larry with it and i will be for some time yet

i am guessing i would have also been very happy with the pana (having been a pana man until this latest purchase)

long story short - decide whats important to you - and pick one - and i am sure you will be happy with either

ps: re image retention and flicker on larger plasmas? - err no - not a single bit - incl after long periods of gaming....this is so not an issue in my exp with the samsung
