My old setup had TV next to computer desk.

HDMI cables from xbox & bluray player direct to TV (it only has two ports). When I wanted to watch something off my computer I plugged HDMI into back of TV.

Now my tv and computer desk are on opposite sides of the room.

A HDMI cable from PC to TV would have to be silly long - is there a better way??

I'm guessing based on the post you're not aware of wireless HDMI extenders. One of these would obviously be the only solution since it seems you don't want to run a cable.

If your TV AND your Laptop are on the same network (wired or wifi) you may be able to stream video / audio to the TV from the laptop using DLNA.

Google DLNA... :)

No wires may be required if this is the case

A TV model number might help for detailed steps...

Under $300 for a 4-way Belkin wireless HDMI sender (4 in - 1 out).

So how big is the room?
How silly long are you thinking?
What about a 5m cable? Should be long enough for most rooms.
I run a media player by the Tv connected via wired network to 2 PCs in another room.
My Blu Ray connects to them via wireless.

If they're in the same room then run a cable.

Cheap and no issues with transmission.

What model is your TV?

Do you have WIFI?

Do you have a network outlet by the TV?
