Hi,

My Father in Law is wanting a TV on his wall that will do it all. He was originally looking at a loewe TV with a soundbar. I'm trying to steer him away from this as it seems way expensive!

Anyway what he wants is:
A large TV
A good stereo
To be able to record normal TV, while watching something else
Connectivity to a computer
Easy to use

So i'm thinking some sort of smart TV hooked up with a sound bar. I know on our samsung TV you can record onto a flash drive but not watch something else at the same time, so perhaps a tv with an inbuilt HDD and recorder.

Anyway I would love to hear your opinions and it really doesnt seem that money is a big issue.

I am currently working for a company called Pricemaker, which does reverse auctions. So basically you go on it and say "I want to buy this" and then retailers place competitive offers for the sale.

You should give it a crack for a TV (or get your dad to) at pricemaker.co.nz. Just say what you've said here, and the retailers should be able to help you out.

Naw stink. Yea we're still relatively new, and still expanding into new areas (outside of Auckland & Wellington). Sorry that we're not in your area yet :)

Recording multiple TV shows on TV's from the 'value' brands isn't a happening thing... they only have one tuner, so you can only record the channel you're watching at the time. Some brands offer EPG recording, others do not... it's a case by case basis really.

So he'll need a separate recorder, or to splurge for the Loewe. As a heads up, Loewe use Sharp's panels... so it'd be interesting to put the brands side-by-side.
If your dad doesn't think the recording functionality is necessarily going to work for him, then there's a host of other TV options out there. Look for smooth motion, accurate colours, decent black levels, no-light bleed yadaya. In regards to sound, a soundbar is nice, a stereo is better... so he has a lot of different options in front of him.
