Hi everyone. I have a Samsung UA40EH5006M TV, and a Samsung HT-E3550 Home Theater. Also have a PS3 and a Digital Sky decoder (one of the older ones - not HD, is 'Pace DSR600' series). Set up I have is:Speakers into Samsung bluray player (have done the speaker sound test and they are connected)Bluray connected to TV via HDMI cable.PS3 connected to TV via HDMI cable.Sky connected to TV via red, white and blue cable thing.TV connected to bluray player via Optical cable.BluRay player set to "D.IN" I've played a Bluray movie and it is in surround sound (the 'sound effect' speakers make sounds), but when: 1) Playing games on the PS32) Watching TV through Sky3) Listening to music through radio on Bluray4) Watching movies on hard drive plugged into bluray I am not getting the sound in 'surround' i.e. nothing coming through the sound effect speakers, or possibly that small one in the center either. Would be great to understand if know if I have this all set up incorrectly, or whether it is just a function of the crappy home theatre that I am not getting anything in surround. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Firstly, have you read the manual? You seem to have the connections OK. Check that your TV is set to output and passthrough digital sound. It may be downmixing to PCM which will give you stereo sound only. Sky will only give you Stereo anyway. So it sounds like the unit is providing the correct sound according to your inputs. You should get surround sound when watching TV1, TV3 and maybe some others but probably only when the program content is actually 5.1 The specs state it doesn't do virtual surround so if you feed stereo in you'll only get stereo on the speakers. The only thing that surprises me is not getting proper surround sound from USB drive unless the files you are playing are not surround encoded (i.e. only stereo). Maybe time to get a decent Receiver/Amp? HTIBs are not great for anything other than playing DVD or Blu Ray.
