I want to upgrade my media center PC to digital for free view. I would prefer DVB-T over DVB-S(as media center only supports DVB-T). Can anybody confirm that DVB-T is actually being broadcast in Auckland, and if so, which channels are being broadcast currently.

I believe that the DVB-T test broadcasts have been discontinued for now and that DVB-S is the only current option.

With regards to your Media Center PC, if it is Vista MCE or XP MCE 2005 then you can get DVB-S working (a registry hack and capable vendor provided driver to map DVB-S to DVB=T frequencies) - I have it working myself. I will check out those other posts. Can you confirm that your have DVB-S (dual tuner) working with all the FTA channels and a working EPG on media center 2005?

I had a quick read through your other posts, and it makes me very keen get a digital setup running.

From reading your other posts it would seem TV 3 (and therefore 4) are not yet on the DVB-S stream? But due in a few weeks.

Let me know the model number of Hauppage card(s) you are using, and any tricks you may have learnt!

Also Im keen to stick with MCE 2005 myself (mainly due to EPG problems with VISTA)...

My setup has 4 extenders, (3 x xbox 360's! (yep 3!!) 1 x xbox), and over 1tb off storage on my MCE PC... :-)

At this stage I have a single Hauppauge Nova-S-Plus DVB-S tuner working inside of both MCE 2005 and also in Vista. (I haven't tried to put the second card in yet..)

According to this post: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=34&topicid=13148 TV3 and C4 are now online. I havent tried to tune them in yet though. The official date is May 2nd though.

As above i'm using the Hauppauge Nova-S-Plus, the latest drivers from www.hauppauge.co.uk and a registry hack produced by a tool called dvbs_reg to make the DVB-S card pretend its a DVB-T card for MCE's benefit.

Also Im keen to stick with MCE 2005 myself (mainly due to EPG problems with VISTA)...

I had some problems initially, but i ended getting the guide to work... I ripped off some code to create a C# app which calls xmltvnz and writes the guide.bin file. There are a couple of .aspx web pages to handle serving the guide data and a program that someone wrote called keepkey which stops vista from overwriting the EPG data source registry key. Someone else I know managed to get bladerunner 3.0 working ok with Vista. If I get time i'll tidy up my code and post it with instructions somewhere for others to use.

I'm moving house this week, and don't have a dish at the new place, but when I get one put up (very quickly) I will look at writing a guide to explain how to get everything working for both MCE2005 and Vista with DVB-S and the EPG.

That would be awesome if you could post your program with instructions. I would love to upgrade to Vista but haven't because of the difficulty of getting the EPG to work.

Right will get myself a Hauppauge x 2, will stick with MCE 2005 for now (dont see the benefit of VISTA other than a slightly refined interface).

Let me know when youve finished moving..... :-)

Hi all

I have Vista running with single Nova S DVB-S card. Also have working EPG. I have a good set of instructions i sourced from the net that use Bladerunner 3 and XMLTVNZ.

I can email the instructions to whoever would like them.

The only pain i am having is getting TV3 and C4 into MCE. I have all the other freeview channels, TV1, TV2, TVNZ Widescreen and Maori TV.

If anyone manages to figure out how to edit the reg file to get MCE to find TV3 and C4 I would greatly appreciate a copy of the working reg file.

TV3 and C4 are on a differnt mux to TVNZ, you will need to scan 12.456GHz symbol and FEC rate the same as the 12.483GHz one.
