Hi all,

Struggling trying to decide on the best value LCD. Some great tvs out there but the variety in features can make it difficult to decide. I'm really after a 37" but if it comes down to it a 32" may have to do.
My list to consider so far:

Samsung new R8 series: Waiting to actually see this in stores but some good reviews, not sure if we'll get the 37" in NZ though.
Toshiba3000A: Only 1 HDMI input is a disappoint, reviews on cnet.asia are very good though, price is very reasonable.
Sharp 37"Aquos: specs looks pretty good & price is reasonable but can't find any reviews, anyone purchased one of these?
Philips 37pf9731_69: Has some great features such as the USB multimedia player with DivX support. However, for the price not supporting 1080p is a disappointment.
Hitachi 9800TA 37": Saw this store & had the best picture with the 10000:1 contrast ratio. For the price, $3999, I would have expected PIP & USB slot but not the case.

Would really appreciate peoples opinions?

Been through the same exercise recently ourselves - and ended up with a V-series Sony Bravia 32".

RRP for these is $2800 - but a lot of retailers have specials on at the moment (eg Smiths City had 13% off the other day, Powerstore in Chch have 20% off).

The real bonus is that Sony offer a $699 DVD recorder (with 160GB hard drive) by redemption when you buy a V-series TV at the moment. If you're in the market for one of those as well, it makes the V-series Bravia a tempting deal.

Having a look at a larger retail store where you can see a lot of brands at once can be helpful. You may be surprised when comparing brands at different price points.

Also be aware that the high definition formats won't appear any better than DVD at 32" TV size.

Yeah the V series Bravia's are nice & the current deals make it pretty good value. The only downside I thought was that it only has 1 HDMI input. Am really keen to hear from anyone who's purchased a Sharp Aquos & hear their opinion.

i bought the sharp 32 aquos (the 2007 model, piano PX5X black) ,
very good lcd, extremely happy with it, i choose it over the 32 samsung and sony,
really has better picture quality, go compare it in the shop side by side if you can.

got it got 2050 incl 5yr warranty from magness benrow cash
