Hello All,
I need a little help  I  have just aquired a Skymedia DVB 200D (http://www.itelsat.com.ua/sat_internet/equipment/card_skymedia200d.htm) fpr image n info) pci card and was wondering apart from the satellite internet that it was intended for are there any other uses for ie...ie Sat TV?

I know they use it in the US for receiving digital TV, from what I can tell it uses MPEG2 encoding and the connectors in the card are designed to hook up to sky tv disk with no probs...There is also a smart card reader in the back...anyone has any fun ideas for a project or something it could be used for...note I have plenty of gear for almost any project pluc a couple of spare sky dishes...Any help or info would be greatly appreciated...

thanks
AU

the SM200D cards can be used to receive sat tv but they don't really support this out-of-the-box.  the "D" means data-only so they werent really designed as TV cards.  I had one working with a program called ProgDVB http://www.progdvb.com/ but it was horribly unstable in XP and Windows 2003.

My advice is don't pursue using this as a permanent soltution for a TV card - play with it for a bit if you want to, but plan on buying a more supported card - technotrend, hauppauge, etc. if you are seriously looking into sat tv
