Help please...the box looks the same, the manufacturers are the same, it does the same thing...so will a UK Sky+ box work on the NZ Sky network like a My Sky box?

Cyril will be the person to answer that for you.  Just looking at the MySky unit we have, there are SKY logos at various places in the firmware, so I would imagine that each firmware version is specific to a given broadcaster.

As far as I know all the NZ "My Sky" boxes are owned by Sky Television - i.e. you can't keep them if you are no longer subscribing.  If the same is true in the UK then the question is answered by the fact that you can't bring it with you anyway.

As far as the boxes being compatible - the NDS encryption used in the UK for Sky is different to that used here so its unlikely that they can be interchanged.

SkyUK operates on a different marketing approach, and as such you own the box, so there is no issue that the box needs to be returned to SkyUK.

Whilst the box is the same, the firmware is not, its similar, however I suggest that the box would not fine the home transponder (as it would be looking for whatever SkyUK uses as a home transponder) and therefore is unlikely to ever obtain any SI stream to get itself underway.

I know that SkyNZ does not marry CA cards to non PVR boxs, due to some of the old boxs not supporting such a feature, however I would not be surprised that with the Sky+/IQ/MySky the box is married to the card as it is in both UK and Aus(Foxtel), so it most likely wont work even if it did get SI info as it would reject the SkyNZ CA card.
