I've just had Sky digital installed in my new house, and discover I can't watch one channel and record another on DVD. Is this how Sky digital works?
On my previous Sky, I could record on VCR while watching another channel (1,2,3,4) (although only one sky channel could be active).
Is there a way around this?
I see that Sky digital box has digital in/out (scart?) and also RF in/out. Does this imply I need an RF araial as well, or does the sky box convert digital in to RF out?

you can only record one channel from Sky at a time, but there's nothing stopping you recording a free to air channel (1,2,3 etc) while watching Sky.

The normal Sky box only has one tuner in it, hence not being able to record 2 Sky channels at once.

I think you missed the point of the OP, he wants to record off SKy Digital AND just WATCH a free to air channel at the same time.

Watch Free to air TV..

1/ Plug TV antenna on roof into RF IN on the back of your sky box
2/ Plug TV Out on your sky box into RF In on the back of your tv
3/ Tune your TV (set to auto scan).  It will pick up all the channels off the aerial. Also Sky Digital will show up as a channel

You can now either watch free to air (via aerial on roof) by tuning to its channel.. ie: tv1, tv2 etc.. or tune to the channel which has Sky TV on it and watch Sky.

Record Sky..

1/ Plug the Scart lead/av leads from the out/tv socket on the sky box into AV In on the back of your vcr.

To record Sky on the vcr, just tune it to 'Line In'...

To be able to watch one thing and record another at the same time what ever channel it may be you need to have 2 sources of input. ie Sky and RF Antena or Sky and Freeview or you could suscribe to Sky plus which has a decoder with 2 tuners inside it which gives you a few other tricks aswell.
