I currently have a Denon avr-x1000 5.1 receiver  the front centre and seround speakers are onkyo left over from my old systym which died the onyko sub is passive so need to replace it.
will be replacing Onkyo over time starting with the center first but need to do sub know so the two i am looking at are

Wharfedale sub-woofer WH-S8E  or
B&W ASW300sub
both second hand which would you recommend or should i be looking for something else. I have a budget of about $350

How far could you stretch? Big, quality bass costs a lot of money - but that's not to say excellent value can't be had for a little more than your current budget, especially if you're prepared to take a chance on second hand.

I have an SVS sub, and these are really well reviewed bang-for-buck subs. Could you save a little longer and treat yourself to an SVS PB-1000 (around $750)? Check out the reviews - I reckon you may as well go for a "real" sub and get years of enjoyment out of it. My SB13-Ultra scares me, and that's running at -19dB.

EDIT: Of the two second hand subs you've listed, the B&W looks to have the edge in terms of heft / specs. No idea how either sounds though ;)

What you want if it's for movies, is the lowest frequency you can buy.

You don't hear the sub, you feel it.

That's the difference between a cool action flick and an incredible experience
