I know some of you have run a dvb-s card as a psuedo dvb-t and I was wondering if I can use this reg file for my HVR-3000 card to use it in other software that only has support for DVB-T such as SageTV.

Do hauppague not have some tools or documentation around doing this? Why not use mediaportal tvserver?

Thanks for the reply. I wasnt aware of any tools. I just popped into their site to have a browse and I cannot see anything off hand.

I was just aware from some psts that it was possible to do this, one of those posts was yours I believe from memory.

I just wanted to know if it were possible seeing as this card is a dvb-s as well as a dvb-t to trick it into thinking it was a dvb-t and use the satellite settings for tuning as we do not yet have a dvbt service.

and mine works fine.
Used media portal for a few days but i found it to crash to much with minimize maximize command and each time i did this tv turned off. and i had to restart it again.

make sure you have these drivers.

So you were able to tell Mediaportal that you had a dvb-T card and scan for channels?
I am wondering because I have got it working quite well with dvb-s but I want to try some other software like Sagetv which has no support for DVB-S at the moment.

I use those drivers but I got them from Hauppauge Singapore so I will download these ones and install them.

Doesn't seem to be working for me.
I installed the reg file and rebooted and went into several programs, GBPVR, Mediaportal, Sagetv and mytheatre and tried to scan for channels as a dvb-t card and it never found any.

This will only work for MCE not for other application as they all support DVB-S.
Try running a scan in MCe see if it brings up anything.
If using normal applciations you may need to use the reg to set it back to normal as it can stop WINTV etc working

I think the latest version of Sagetv supports DVB-S in a very dodgy sort of way but it is definately not well supported.

Thats why I was investigating using your DVB-s as a psuedo DVB-T.
I am not interested in running MCE.

To be completely honest I'm not sure why anybody would really want to use SageTV. US$100 for a piece of software that is terrible compared to GB-PVR, MythTV or MediaPortal.

Not sure for Sage TV, You might be able to get away with the same reg key but i doubt it.
I would just change Software, I agree wiuth previous post MythTV and MediaPortal are far superior.
I can personally vouch for MediaPortal, had to switch back to MCE the GF didnt want to learn a new peice of software

Yeah. I see lots of these posts. I honestly believe I researched my chosen hardware quite well but only started to come across problems after I had purchased it all.

The HVR3000 has serious issues and all the software I have tried( and I have tried most of it) has had problems with it.

I have tried GBPVR, Mediaportal, Meedio, Sagetv, Beyondtv, MTHTPC, My Theatre, Gotmedia, Xlobby plus a few others I can no longer remember.

All of them had problems with my hardware. I researched my specific issues with every one of those peices of software but wasnt able to get a satisfactory image in live tv with any of them.

I have found now that My theatre is the only application that can play live tv properly using this card but it has a piss poor interface so you have to open several different menus just to play a media file.

It has no dedicated media browser at all like mediaportal. So I was trying to use another piece of software as a media browser and software such as girder or hip to control the various software.

So rather than change my hardware I am trying to use a combination of software to achieve a decent media pc.

I use a ir hauppauge 45 button remote and I have even run into problems with that trying to get it to work with software like girder 4.0 and HIP.

I believe the software solutions I am after are not available but I am still searching and researching.

So far, most of the posts I receive in answer to my support questions have been telling me to change my hardware but I am stubborn and wanting to come up with a software solution.

Slightly off topic but what are you being advised to use? I will be setting up a media PC soon and was thinking of getting the 3000.

I've had no problems at all with my HVR3000 using GB-PVR. Works fine with DVB-S and the trial DVB-T transmissions. The only thing to be aware of is that it has no onboard MPEG2 encoder so it hopeless under GB-PVR (and several other TV apps) for any analogue stuff.

I concur with this. I have a HVR-4000. Works like a charm with GB-PVR. Was difficult to set up as a hybrid card with MP.

Using it for DVB-S and DVB-T tests, not for analog. Have a PVR150 for analog capture (mainly SKY).

Perhaps you can go into more detail about what didn't work with GB-PVR?

I cannot really be that speicifc I am afraid. Just steer clear of the asus m2a hdmi motherboard and the Hauppauge HVR-3000 tv card.
Go for a tv card that has onboard encoding and dont be attracted by the hdmi capabilities of the asus motherboard as it is only available with a sister board attached to your pci-e slot which limits you regarding the options for video cards etc.

The television quality has never been right for me, regardless of what encoder, renderer, overlay etc I use. I have tried Nidia purevideo, cyberlink and intervideo as well as noncss and dscaler and various combinations of vmr7, vmr9 and evr and had no luck. Mytheatre just worked and gave me a perfect picture with no hassles. That is what I believe software should do, without the need to constantly shag around with it, although I am happy to do some configuration, if it works first time then it can't be bad.

My card also worked "fine" for me with GBPVR. It was not hard to tune etc, it is just the fact that the software has no options for changing the aspect ratio that I didn't like so it incorrectly displays 4:3 and 16:9 depending on the broadcast.
I realise it is doing what is desirable by not stretching or changing the image but what I want is for the screen to be filled regardless.
Sub tried to help me achieve that but the settings he gave me for manually changing my config file did not work.
What I am after is something along the lines of mytheatre(check it out) that has an option where you can set the display at 16:9 and then force 4:3 to display at 16:9 as well automatically without the need to zoom or anything everytime an image is displayed incorrectly.
