Hi,

I'm looking to get hold of a MCE remote to control my Media Portal on XP Pro setup.  I see that Hauppauge do a MCE remote with the senders (Ascent list them for $66 odd bucks) so was thinking I'd grab one of those.  Before I take the plunge, would there be any reason not to buy the Hauppauge unit - are they identical other than colour?  Are they feature complete when used with Media Portal?

TIA!

The Hauppauge should work the same as M$ but I think with the M$ remote you can program the volume controls to control your TV or amplifier.  It could be the other way around :)

Yeah - the Microsoft one is programable for Volume, on/off on the TV.

It also comes with the IR Receiver and 2 x IR Blasters with guaranteed trouble free motoring ie no compatibility issues.  Last one I bought cost $60 incl GST complete (PBTech or Playtech I can't remember).

The Hauppage one I got with my cards is a POS in comparison.  It has no green backlight either.

The new Hauppauge OEM units are also only usable on Vista and will not work under XP as their is no driver support. These units are clearly labelled as Vista MCE only so it would pay to check before you buy one.

Thanks for the input gents - I'll try and track down the MS unit.
