Hi.

My father in law built a few house and was sold a lexcom wiring system by a company. He got a silver box, so he says, and they made a claim that this box would allow him to "mirror" whatever was showing on his TV, to another TV in the house, over CAT5.

I am not aware of any technology that does this (Since I don't think you can broadcast tv over ethernet into the ethernet port of a TV), however, I do know you can transport HDMI over CAT5e and CAT6 and I am wondering if that is what they were talking about. The old company that did it is no longer around (surprise!).

I'd have imagined there would be all sorts of issues with resolutions, HDCP etc?

Anyone have any experience with it?

Sorry but that doesn't mean much to me.

Is it accepting inputs in a variety of types like RCA or Composite video, and then outputting via RJ45? How does the TV know that the traffic coming down the ethernet is Video/Audio? Is there just supposed to be an RJ45 > HDMI converter on the end?

Trying to visualize how this all gets connected/configured.

It isn't Ethernet, but rather analog RF modulated signal sent over cat5 with RF out via RJ45 to IEC male (Belling Lee?) patch leads. 1980's technology at best.

I was laughing at this stuff many years ago when I first saw it, Im surprised that they are still peddling it.

Was some cat-7 cable they claimed, nothing existed at the time to actually be cat 7, so it was a made up designation of theirs.

Anyway, it was just a RF balun to convert a modulated signal to a 100 ohm pair, and then back at the other end, the twisted pairs in their "future proof" cable were individually shielded making it even more of a PITA for installers to work with, and the end result was something that was only fit for a 15" CRT screen since that is what was around when it was invented.

You should be able to try to use the cables for HDMI over cat5 gear on it, I dont know if the shielding will cause too much additional capacitance on the signals or not.

Anyway, this has a "silver box" in it which is just a 4 input modulator with a RJ45 for the RF output on it, if thats what he has then its basically junk.
