I want to buy the Sony Muteki HT-M77 7.2ch home theater system but before I do I want to know a few things about it. Does it decode 7.1 DolbyTrueHD and DTS-HD-Master Audio soundtracks from bluray discs and does it have 4K pass through feature? I saw in some pics of the HT-M77 amplifier that 4K is written beside HDMI port labels so I was wondering if it has pass through feature. I have a 2014 Samsung 4K UHD TV and a Panasonic bluray player with 4K upscaling. The system costs $4299 here in Fiji. I would be very grateful if anyone who has owned this system can tell me if it's worth buying and has experienced any technical problems with it.

i have had one for years [7-8] and never had a problem , mine does everything you asked about except 4k which wasn't around when i brought it. i have a PS3 hooked up for Blue Ray and run Sky through the Amp . i would buy another one in a heartbeat .

Nope - it doesn't handle lossless audio formats.

It may 'pass 4K', but it most certainly won't past UHD with expanded colour... ie the latest UHD Blu-ray discs won't give you the full monty.

It's cheap, it's nasty and poorly thought of to be fair.

BUT, if it's the only unit you can get your hands on for a fair price...

For what they sell for here, they are great value and a huge step up over a typical cheap nasty system that isnt much cheaper. I had no idea things were marked up that much in fiji tho - the system a friend got for their basement for their kids was about $1400 from memory, its loud, bassy and they love it. Large and imposing speakers which look cheap, so low wife acceptance on 2 fronts there, but if thats the look you want, then fantastic. No fake woodgrain at least.

But $4300? Hell. No.

i paid $1300 for mine and for something thats meant to be cheap and nasty its lasted 7-8 years and is been used 15 hours a day so what more can you ask for.

Well if it doesn't decode lossless audio then does it at least decode 7.1 LPCM audio? I won't be upgrading to a new 2016 model HDR tv or 4K UHD Bluray player so I'll be happy with just the normal 4K upscaling pass through feature. I initially wanted to get the Onkyo TX-NR646 7.2ch av receiver ($1650) or the Harman Kardon AVR 171S 7.2ch receiver ($3177) but I read online reviews that these brand of receivers have too many hardware failures and are expensive in Fiji. Plus a set of seven speakers and a subwoofer would cost another $3000. The new Samsung KS8000 55" HDR tv costs $8000 and the KS9500 65" HDR tv costs $12000 here. We won't be getting to see any UHD bluray players in the market here though since nobody sells original DVDs/Blurays in Fiji. I have my relatives bring me original DVDs and Blurays from JB Hi-Fi in Australia. The reason electronic goods are so expensive in Fiji is because of the goddamn Gujarati businessmen who are extremely greedy and like to charge more than they should. They don't even lower the prices if the product such as the Sony HT-M77 is nearly three years old.

I had the Muteki 6.2, the older version and it wasn't that good. I got it to replace me Onkyo TX-SN509 which I had some small bookshelf speakers running off. I have since sold the Sony and use the Onkyo again and I am much happier with it.

I can't speak for the newer Sony but I was underwhelmed with the old version, the big speakers weren't any better than my bookshelf speakers.
