This is my setup:

MySky
Vista MCE
WinTV-PVR-150-MCE Tuner Card

MySky is connected to PVR via antenna cable. I can display output of MySky in WinTV in broadcasted 16:9 aspect ratio (TV1, 2 or 3 or movies) if I keep it in windowed mode but as soon as I go full screen it squashes sides to 4:3 aspect and displays black bars on sides. If I record the output of MySky it records 16:9 content in the same squashed way, 4:3 atuff looks fine though.

The analogue input doesn't understand widescreen so it just records everything as 4:3

Not quite true.  My panasonic VCR if recording off the aerial feed a 16:9 Sky feed will record in 16:9 and play as such.  Guess it records the 16:9 feed as 4x3 compressed..

It probably doesn't know 16:9 exists and records everything in whatever it is sent, which is then displayed again when you play the tape?

WSS will survive VHS quite nicely, so that is whats expected. DVD-Rs seem to not get it mostly.

My bt878 card and dscaler seems to cope with it fine as well.

Would be interesting to know how you get on moving to dvd, thats what I have seen fail in the past, since its in the TOC or something not part of the video signal.

What if I use the composite input on my TV tuner card - will that recognise WS?

Dscaler is the only software I know of to read and work off the WSS, everything else seems to ignore it.

I have my sky decoder (not mysky) setup for 16:9 Widescreen output and have a svideo connection to my 150 card from the sky box.  This gives me a 4:3 mpeg capture, when playing back in zoomplayer or dvbviewer I just change the aspect ratio to 16:9 and everything looks good.  For copying to DVD I use TMPGEmc DVD Author and just change the aspect ratio to PAL 16:9 and it produces a DVD which plays back fine in 16:9 widescreen from a standalone DVD player.
