Hi everyone

So lashed out at Xmas and updated to a Sony 65' 8500 4k TV, and a Yamaha RX 3060 Receiver, running a full Atmos set up.

Both amp and receiver are HDMI 2.0 compatible.

TV/ receiver connected by using both 4K ARC inputs (HDMI), with a Monster High speed cable.

The receiver pretty much acts as a hub for turntable/spotify/laptop/4k bluray player etc.

Lipsync setting on receiver is set to auto, and is enabled for all inputs, Delay is at 0 ms. All video/audio processing on TV/receiver set to either off/pass through/auto

Maybe its my eyesight, but when watching Freeview/Netflix, regardless of setting for lipsync, there seems to be a discernable audio delay. More obvious when streaming HDR 4K Netflix. Have used ethernet cable and wifi thru the TV, little difference

4k bluray player is fine, calibrated using a Spears/Munsill calibration disc

Fairly certain Sony has no lipsync adjustment in any of the set up/advanced menus

Have done 2-3 factory resets for receiver

Any ideas gratefully received ;)

Any firmware updates for the things? That usually sorts out silly little issues like that.

Maybe try a optical cable out from the TV to the receiver. Just to help troubleshoot and rule things out.

optical cable will have no lipsync correction and you will have to adjust it manually.

The problem I had was when shifting between game mode and normal mode, the delay on the amp was not changing so on game mode the audio was massivly delayed still. Moved things around so that amp is not on that TV anymore so not sure if the updates would have solved it.

There were lip sync issues with Sony TV's last year...

To help...

Switch to an optical cable! ARC is quite frankly, a crapshoot. Can I use that word here? Well, either way, it is what it is.

If you don't want to go to an optical cable EVEN THOUGH I really recommend that you do...

Can you change the TV's audio output to PCM?

While you're at it, remove a load of the TV's video processing.

Also - do you use MusicCast on your amp? If so, make sure the volume control is set to 'lip sync' and not 'audio sync'. Also what firmware are you running on your AVR?

Interesting discussion. Don't want to hi-jack, but Post-Xmas I purchased a 65" Sony X7500D, and am pretty happy with it. One quibble though is a very slight audio lag on all inputs (Sky TV, PS3 Blu Ray, & in-built Youtube app). The lag is tiny, but noticeable.

I am using an optical audio cable. The Sky box & PS3 are connected directly to TV via HDMI, with optical audio out to my Pioneer VSX 519v receiver.

Previously with my Panasonic Plasma TV, I actually had the Sky Box & PS3 connected to the receiver via HDMI, then HDMI out from receiver to the TV. (i.e. no optical audio at all). I never noticed a lag with this set-up.

Any suggestions for removing the lag appreciated!

Thanks for all your suggestions, the optical cable seem to didn't do much, and so i did a factory reset, and changed the audio output to PCM, also swapped all the HDMI cables around......strangely satisfying getting mouths to match their words!!, anyways seems better now, TV/Netflix lag seems minimal.

When I had my Panasonic 4K TV, never had this issue, if it had ouput HDR10, pretty certain I would have kept it, oh well c 'est la vie ;) Disappointing that none of the reviews of the TV that I read mentioned the lag/lip sync as a negative, or even an issue

Got the latest firmware for both Sony and Yamaha( TV:PKG3.533.0108PAB, and receiver:Version 1.26)

Prolly keep tinkering until I'm happy with it.

OP, is your TV on Android 6.0.1? If so, does it have turn on problems? Several Sonys, incl mine, have this problem.

Hmm, as far as I can tell, it's running ver.5.1, and system info page/about page (under settings) says that software/ apps are up to date....should I go to Sony site to put update on USB?, I just assumed it would automatically update, as I've set auto update to 'on'

Yesterday, I also did a full factory reset, and there was no notification of any software/app updates

No issues with switching on/off, and I've set the HDMI control on the receiver to on

Thanks for the response. My receiver is a few years old (Pioneer VSX-519v) and is missing a few modern features (i.e. no ARC or 4k pass-through). So I thought I had simplified things by connecting Sky & PS3 to TV, and then Optical Audio Out to the Receiver. Otherwise, wasn't sure how to get TV (i.e. Android TV/YouTube/Plex) etc audio outputting through my receiver?

Ideally I should have a play around with changing inputs etc... but I can't really be bothered pulling out the massive TV cabinet and being driven nuts by the horrific mess of cables unless I'm confident I can fix it :)

Not the wrong way. Exactly what I have given my TX-606 does not do ARC either. Everything is passed back via optical. My BR goes to the Tv direct since the HDMI passthrough/conversion on the amp is less than ideal

Looking at manual you do have some options like mine. Adding artificial delay

S.DELAY (Sound Delay) Some monitors have a slight delay when showing video, so the soundtrack will be slightly out of sync with the picture. By adding a bit of delay, you can adjust the sound to match the presentation of the video.

Have a fiddle. Assuming it's short on the right side since it has no -s. Appears to also be a 'lip-sync' HDMI correction if the device supports.

If it is on 5.1, best to leave it there as the update to 6.0.1 has the startup problem, at least on several models.

My TV updated at first startup so strange that yours doesn't. There is a setting to tick auto update on most, but, as I say, maybe don't rush this one.

Thanks, although unfortunately the receiver's Sound Delay doesn't help, but makes it worse - as my Audio is already "behind" the video.

Doesn't appear to be an easy way to artificially delay the video on the various inputs!

It's the high speed cable - it's sending the data too fast and the receiver cannot cope, and it's delaying processing.

If you got to the next-up Monster cable, the Super-high Speed cable, you'll actually start receiving audio before the show is broadcast.

So I'd recommend a not-so-fast-monster cable that doesn't send the data too fast, and this will allow the receiver to correctly process the audio.
