Hi Everyone!!

I'm having a problem with my relatively new (8 weeks old) PS3 and Philips Full HDTV.  The Philips tv is the: 42PFL7422 and the PS3 is a standard 40gig.

Basically, I have used the HDMI cable input from day one to run my PS3 to the TV, everything was working great, but a few days ago i turned on the PS3 and found that no sound was coming through!! Picture is still good but no sound coming through at all. I also hadn't changed any settings between when I had last used it and when there was no sound.

I took the PS3 and HDMI cable to a friends to test on his TV, all worked fine. Have also checked that the audio out setting on the PS3 are through HDMI. Sky through the Scart and PS3 through the components all work fine with sound, the only problem is with HDMI.

So, from there I rang Philips and they told me the name of the service agents (Next Electronics) but also said that if it wasn't a tech problem then i'd be left with the callout charge!!

So...  Does anyone have any other ideas i could try before I try the service agents??  I am a student and had to save for years (literally!!) to afford the TV and PS3 so i dont really want to be spending money on something that may be an easy fix!

Thanks for your help!! :)

Can you get someone to bring their PS3 around and test it with your TV? IT sounds like you have done everything else.
If you find that their PS3 will not work either, then it may be time to get your TV repaired.

Does the TV have an option for the HDMI audio input to be through the HDMI cable or via RCA inputs?

My Toshiba has an option in the setup menu that allows you to set it so that you can have the audio connected to the RCA inputs when using HDMI.  I guess this is for those who might be using a DVI-HDMI cable which doesn't have the audio.
The RCA inputs are for audio when using the VGA connection as well.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

I have a 26" Sony LCD (KLV-26S200A) hooked up to to a MySKY2 Cool by HDMI and have had a lot of problems getting the audio through on the HDMI cable. For the past couple of months I have hooked up the audio separately to the RCA inputs that the Sony groups with the HDMI input. I checked the TV setup and there doesn't seem to be a user choice for audio source on HDMI. Last week I had problems getting the HDCP to negotiate successfully (i.e. no pictures on the HDMI input) after a decoder software update which was eventually fixed by pulling the HDMI cable out of both devices and swapping it end for end. The 'HDCP status' on the decoder now comes up 'HDCP successful' where it was 'HDCP failed' before, even though I have always been able to watch SD over HDMI and I have also found that the audio is now available over  HDMI.

My experience with HDMI so far is that the success of the HDCP negotiation can depend on which device is plugged into the cable last, or possibly which device was booted last. It also seems that a failed HDCP negotiation can affect whether the TV will get audio over the HDMI. is there anywhere on the PS3 that you can check the status of the HDCP?
