Hello

I have a laptop which has an awful lot of music on it, and a very good home stereo system.  What I would really like to do is be able to play the music on the laptop through the home stereo without a physical connection.  I know you can get wireless head phones so is there a way of wirelessly transmitting the music from the laptop to some sort of recevier plugged into the amp? Is there a way of doing this through the bluetooth in my laptop?

Thanks for looking

You will need to find a Bluetooth dongle to plug into your stereo. Most are 3.5mm plugs so you will also need a 3.5mm to RCA adapter.

Also make sure your laptop supports Bluetooth Stereo (A2DP) otherwise it won't work.

Forget Bluetooth,
If you have WiFi - get an Apple Airport express.  I have one and it's brilliant.

I broadcast using shoutcast (& use content on demand feature) from my laptop & PC, to my cellphone (running Nokia internet radio/TCPMP) which is plugged into the stereo :-) wifi 802.11g & 320kbps streaming.

FM is worthless if you even want it to sound vaguely acceptable.

Nothing wrong with a bluetooth receiver - if your laptops current bluetooth stack and hardware support a2dp, otherwise it will sound like a phonecall.

the airport express needs additional software to work with everything, as supplied it is vendor lock-in crippled to itunes only.

If you've got the budget for it, I'd suggest the Roku Soundbridge as I feel this is the best option on the market right now - or the Squeezebox mentioned previously if you have a $4000+ stereo and really want to squeeze the best sound out of it.

One more vote for the Airport Express. SO easy to setup and use and the quality is great :D
