Hi there,

Is anyone using the M3N78-EMH HDMI board for their HTPC?
If so, I would like to know if the intergrated geforce 8200 plays freeviewHD ok?

I understand that that AMD 780G boards or ATI graphics cards have trouble with Freeview and the recomendations are to use a discrete Nvidia geforce 8500 and above for reliable operation. It would be nice do with out a discrete graphics for dedicated HTPC ...ie it will never play games!

Cheers

Just checked pricespy for that model, all of them seem to be a standard 780g motherboard with ATI H3200 graphics?

Price spy do have them listed see here:  http://www.pricespy.co.nz/pno_12692.html
From following the some of the links, they seem to be in stock too.

There's an xfx model 8200 board at C1, about $140-$150. I'd be interested too, but can't find any reviews of these boards yet...

I would be interested aswell, as in what mobo can play Freeview HD with integrated graphics. Be good for dedicated HTPC's as it could save space and power Smile

Ah k missed that link.

Would be nice to have a board with 8400 graphics, then you'd know for sure it'd work fine.

Can't find a review with video benchmarks apart from xvid encoding, which doesnt really help.

May be a one-off (2-off), but mobileh264 has had bad stability experience with his MB -

(see bottom of page).

Also davidluke. He went for an Abit 8200 and has also posted a how-to for setting up for Blu-Ray playback here:

So, looks like the boards can handle BD at 1080P, as long as you have 2 gigs of ram or so. Unfortunately they seem to be suffering from the usual drivers/teething issues, might pay to wait a few months.

Some more reviews here:

Page 6 & 7 of this article from Anandtech covers the ASUS M3N78-EMH HDMI
http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3301&p=1

Short review from digit-life here:
http://www.digit-life.com/articles3/mainboard/asus-m3n78-emh-hdmi-geforce8200-p1.html

But overal, there is not much info on this motherboard/chipset considering its already in retail channels.

Page 2 of this article suggests there are some driver issues…..but it was posted in April?
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3288&p=2

For what it is worth Giga-byte also have a GF 8200 board on their website.
http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2817
Its been there for over a month now....but no infomation on the web about it seems.

I would be nice if someone in NZ can confirm it works/does not work well.
I have a feeling that Vorbis is on the right track saying the drivers probably need sorting out.
I can't help think that if this board was working reliably and it was truly a great AMD 780g competitor , then the web would have more to say it about!

There are also GF 8300 cards already on the NZ market (for a few extra bucks); eg. http://c1com.co.nz/shop/step1.php?number=13860

But have yet to find a real road test of the board (NZ or anywhere).

Looking good on that 8300, would be nice if someone was willing to take the plunge?

Also are there any intel 775 boards with integrated graphics that are similar?

Hey guys,

Sorry for thread dig but can bring to light to this subject shortly.
Computer Lounge are being kind enough to lend me a heap of HTPC gear to test for Freeview HD

Will be checking Freeview HD feasibility on:
Asustek M3N78 PRO Socket AM2+ GeForce 8300
Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H AM2+ HD3200

If successful will attempt with nVidia 8200 boards including the XFX MI-A78S-8209

Also will compare how the Nova T 500 HD compares to the HVR-2200 as I've heard the HVR2200 changes channel faster which would be nice

Will post up here end next week hopefully :)

Cool x 2, well done to you and Computer Lounge.

What PVR s/w will you be testing with?

Yay bloomreview! (maybe you can get this on geekzone/GP front page?)
Can you possibly check the 8400GS PCI-E graphics card too?
