Okay, kinda newbie here so please excuse me if i delve into topics already covered..

Had MCE running for a little over 3 years now and can never get used to live viewing at friends places anymore, ads? wtf?!

Got Vista up and going a wee while ago and the box has been doing me proud (despite never getting the EPG to work for me) however its has finally come time to upgrade.

I run Sky Digital currently through it and want to upgrade the box for HD viewing.. (dvds and freeview).

Got a new case on order (essential i understand if you want HD... :P) and a new mobo (pci-e and ATX, no more of this AGP and m-ATX cr*p) coming, along with an 8600, Blueray drive yada yada..

To the guts of it.. Can you run Sky and Freeview using VistaMC at the same time (thinkin keeping the 150MCE for sky and grabbing an Avermedia or something for Freeview). Can it support two separate media sources? ie record from one and view the other? Is it possible to run separate guides? Is there a solution to this if Vista dant do the bidness?

Had a wee look at GBPVR and MediaPortal but to be straight up its kinda flying above my head at the moment.. The last bucket prolly didn't help.. :o

Am looking for as much help as i can get, had a read through the forums but couldn't find anything that seemed related, although as previously mentioned the last bucket prolly didn't help.. ;)

Any help, guides, offers to set-my-sh*t-up for a small fee would be met with an open beer and a massive "you dah maaan!"

(p.s, can help with other sh*t in return, got good hookups (should prolly clarify i mean hardware..) and know the bouncers at showies (free lappies ;) plus good with other sh*t if anyone needs any help.)

Sorry if this seems presumptuous or abit slack on my part.. I'm abit of a useless c*** with this stuff..

Many thanks!
Alex.

Ok

Looks like i jumped the gun, just read the post below and realise Freeview doesnt work too well with VistaMC with HD content.

Gutted, any other easy to do solutions, would love a complete hassel free system but is becomming a rather larger task than i had imagined..

Cheers
Alex

If you choose Freeview HD you'll have to ditch Windows MCE, it simply doesn't work with it. I suggest GBPVR or Mediaportal. GBPVR it seems has less features but is more stable, Mediaportal has more features but stability depends on your setup and how you've configured it. Some get it working perfect, others just cant get it right.

Cheers Much Mate!

I think i prolly fall into the latter category, had a quick crack at it but ran into issues installing and haven't taken it further yet, (GBPVR) plan to do a format and reinstall when the new hardware comes so might have to give it a betterer go then.

Chur chur!
Alex.

Make sure you've got a h264 compatible video card (ie your new 8600) and Powerdvd codecs, otherwise Freeview HD is going to lag a lot. Alternatively CoreAVC if you have a beefy cpu.
