my dvd recorder has gone kaput, which is a pain, but not the end of the world - i would, however, like to retrieve the info on the hard drive. i am aware that is possible to take hard drives out of old pc's and buy a case, turning them into portable hard rives, but does anybody know if this is an option with hard drives removed from dvd recorders? i assume this is possible, but felt sure that somebody on this site would know more about this than me (in fact, i'm pretty sure that everybody here knows more than me)  :)
any help would be appreciated
chris

By 'gone kaput' do you know what caused it? It's possible it could've been the hard disk which died (our first one had this).
I'd be interested in if it's simply a standard hard drive, though im not sure what formatting it would use.

I would doubt it, you can extract PC hard drives and use them externally as the format and interfaces are known and open,

HDD recorders use gawd knows what format to write data to and from the drive, so even if you recovered the physical drive, unless you have a way of reading it, you are still stuffed, the only thought might be to find an exact duplicate of your HDD player and do a drive transplant.
