I'm unable to get the machine to go to sleep in the first place with the MP PowerScheduler and if I force it into sleep, it will not wake up and record.
I notice on a few forums that people have got this working in MP i.e. putting the machine to S3 sleep after no activity for a set period and then waking the machine up to record and then later putting it back to S3 sleep again after finishing the recording session. Unfortunately nobody seems to put details about HOW they got it working!!!!
I would be happier to have the Power Options setting activated in Microsoft because we use the machine for other things outside of MP e.g. the internet. This worked fine with Media Centre. Does it not recognise whether all activities are running on the PC including MP?
It would be fantastic to get a simple step by step instruction on getting S3 sleep to work with MP, including how to wake the machine up using the power option on the remote control - I understand from reading forums that this is only possible with an IR plugged into a USB port which is powered in sleep mode?

gperkinson: Hi NZKC,
First of all, thanks so much for the reply and all the detail you have included - much appreciated.
I got this all working OK, BUT, the machine goes to sleep when I'm using it for other purposes e.g. surfing the internet. I'm guessing therefore that it's specifically for Media Portal.
I tried disabling the shutdown in the Powerscheduler but enabling the Windows Power options along with the wakeup option in Media Portal and managed to get the machine to sleep, but it didn't wakeup to a scheduled TV program.
Any other thoughts?

Shutdown mode - Stay On
Hi,
That didn't seem to make any difference unfortunately. From all the testing I have done tonight with different settings, my conclusion is that they work completely independantly i.e. Windows Power Options don't seem to see Media Portal scheduler and the Media Portal Powerscheduler appears to only see just Media Portal e.g. it doesn't recognise I'm on the internet.
Because the machine is being used for other things, I'm left with the conclusion that I need to find some way of Windows Power Manager recognising Media Portal like it does Media Centre - the S3 process was perfect with Windows Media Centre.
Any help from anybody would be appreciated as this is the only thing now stopping me from moving to Media Portal.
PS: What do you think of Release 3? I also found it was heaps more stable as well!!
Cheers
Graham
gperkinson: After some more stuffing around, I tried leaving the anti-virus on and just opening up MP i.e. shutting it down and opening it up again. It went to sleep!!
gperkinson: What I have discovered is that when I have finished using MP and go back to the Home Page, the TV is still running minimised (in the bottom left hand corner) This must mean that the MP is still active and therefore Powerscheduler is unable to go into sleep.
gperkinson:
By the way, I'm still having issues forcing the machine to sleep using the MP main menu. Anybody else having these issues?
Thanks for the reply NZKC.
I'm happy to use MP as you have described with the 5 minute timeout and not being able to put the machine straight to sleep from the Main Menu - no worries. You might be right about the Powerscheduler keeping the machine from doing this - good point.
Thanks for the pointer on turning the TV off before exiting - that makes sense. I thought there might have been a setting to automatically shut the TV down when exiting My TV - much safer when the wife uses it!!
I have just checked a recording from yesterday and it has not worked, but will retest again now by not rebooting the machine.

Graham
Can someone point me to where I can download the Power Scheduler plugin?? The Media Portal plugins page doesn't seem to have anything, I've tried searching and browsing.
FYI, GBPVR automatically wakes the computer to record. I'm surprised MediaPortal doesn't do it out of the box.
Edit: never mind, I found it on the Plugins tab of the MediaPortal configuration. It's bundled with Media Portal.
