Mysky has a nice eSATA connection on it but is there anyway of getting it to work?

Have filled up the hard drive a couple of times already and it would be nice to save some stuff off to a hrad drive.I have an external Terrabyte with an eSATA connection which I would love to use. Any other way of connecting to my home computer network and get it on to my hard drive?

Is there another way of maybe saving things to a DVD?

It's unlikely to ever be possible. Content owners simply won't allow it.

Its likely to be possible but only with a Sky specific addon which would encrypt/use an odd file system/hard drive specific detection like the 360, otherwise there is no point in the eSATA being there.

What about the Ausi boxes? Are there any plans/speculations as to the ports for their models (or more specifically, firmware, since it's just a matter of enabling them and providing a frontend to make use of them).

But as mentioned, content providers would probably not allow this, especially HD content, which is just dumb, since a HTPC or even a standard DVD recorder can record content of MySky and onto a standard DVD ( Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 admittedly not in HD).

Another (better?) option is to get the LAN port enabled, or even allow the internal HD to be upgraded.

We can but live in hope......

Theorising.
My reasoning is that why have an eSATA port and 3 USB ports which can all potentially be used to increase capacity, when you aren't going to use them? The box afaik was done as a joint project between Fox, Sky and Pace, so one of the two will eventually use it.
I think somehow they will come out with a propietary addon for it, Fox is probably more likely to do it first. I also think it won't be accessible by a PC, because it will use a non windows filesystem + encryption perhaps, and a non official drive cannot be connected.

As i said, this is theorising.

Theoretically it is all encrypted and requires the correct Sky card for the file to be read (just like the current drive) so I don't see any copyright issues. Maybe they don't see the need at the moment due to the lack of HD channels that would use the storage. It might be enabled in another year or so.

If people are wanting to go down this path then you're not going to be able to do it with a MySky box.

There are ways these days to record encrypted ts content direct to a PC based PVR and then decode in using a valid subscriber card on playback. This is something content owners and companies like Sky don't want people doing but the reality is there is now nothing to stop it from happening and the person isn't effectively "hacking" anything as a valid subscriber card is required for playback. The problem now is the exploits that exist around this and anybody who has a dreambox will no exactly what I mean.

Build something these days and people will hack it or find a way around it. I honestly think NDS will be compromised in the not too distant future and to an extent already has been with the "exploit" that I refer to above.
