Hey guys got my family htpc built up, asus p5q se mobo, hvr 3000 tuner etc and vista ultimate.
Its not picking up any services when it tries to do the scan.... its really weird?? Is there some program I can do to try and see what is being picked up by the tuner card?

I followed the vista install guide on reven perfectly and have done this many times before.. what am I missing :( Thanks and have a good day off tomorrow everyone!!

What are you trying to scan for? (Presumably you are trying to get analogue only as you do not mention using the TV Pack or anything.) If you install the software that comes with the tuner card that should at least show if it is picking up the signals.

Freeview HD (DVB-T) will not work without major hacks, and even then its unstable.
Freeview Satellite (DVB-S)im pretty sure can work with some registry hacks i think, or using a program like dvbsbridge.

I have not used this method myself for quite a while so my recall is a but rusty but... when you go through the setup, presumably you select "cable", also do you have a IR Blaster? I seem to recall it can cause problems if you do not (although there is a work around from memory, somewhere...) Is the SVHS output from the SKY box definitley working, ie can you plug it directly into the TV to check?

Dunno if Vista is any different to XP MCE but media center does not support the HVR3000 or 4000 natively.  The PVR150 and 500 are supported.

Using the software that came from Hauppage I can get the signal from the sky box using the HVR but the picture is woeful.  Using a PVR150 with exactly the same connection is much better (s-video).  The HVR analogue is just plain bad.

If all you want is analogue from sky then use a different card.  I had the card tested and replaced by the manufacturer and the picture was crap on the new one too.

I use the PVR150 in MCE for recording sky, and other software (e.g WinTV that came with the card) if I want to watch high def using the HVR4000.

You are probably better off using a different software package altogether, such as gbpvr or mediaportal. If I could be bothered doing a clean install, i'd go with mediaportal.
