Hello
I am using an HDMI ethernet extender from my Sky box and when plugged into my Samsung tv the signal drops out on and off.

I’ve changed cables and HDMI ports and the issue remains. If I plug the sky box directly into the tv it works fine. I’ve also tried it on another tv (Veon) and it works perfectly.

I’ve tried different cables and different ports and experience the same issue.

Does anyone know what might be causing these issues?

Thanks for you help.

Length of cable run??, extender devices used??? Why did you not run cat6????

HDMI has a somewhat more complex handshaking process and different brands tend to give different results at times with these sorts of things. Are the cat5 cables the exact same length? (I'm assuming it's using two?) are there toggles/dip switches on the extender?

Re-terminate the CAT cable.

It will most likely fix the issue.

If not, it could be a clock stretching issue or a sign of an extender that's on its way out.

I had issues with one of my extenders and solved it with a HDMI splitter at the far end of the run that seemed to be happier with the input. It would still drop out sometimes when there was something electrcally noisy turned on or off like the lights but was mostly ok.

Thanks for your replies

This is what I’m using

The network cable runs for about 15 meters

As I mentioned the setup works perfectly on the Veon but not on the Samsung. But if the Samsung is plugged into the set top box it works fine.

So you adjusted dip switch settings as suggested in manual??

I've used variations of these (theyre pretty generic) and you do sometimes need to adjust the DIP switches. I've never used CAT5 though - only Cat6 or higher

Might want to try ensuring the ends are still terminated correctly as well with a data tester or by proving it with a premade patch lead

Is the TV a 4K set?

If so, can you change its HDCP to 1.4 (down form 2.2 or 2.3)?

More info is required... so a full product code of the TV is needed.

Needs to really know if the resolution etc is the same on both TVs, but as the source is a sky box there is unlikly to be any HDR or 4k or other advanced stuff happening so it probably will be one of the lower quality modes. Possibly one TV does 4:2:2 or whatever the lousy resolution 1080p is and the other is 4:4:4 so a higher bitrate over the cable tho.

But if the signal is the same over the cat5 then there isnt any reason that it should be different between the displays, since anything that is a single cable one will have sufficiant regeneration in them that it shouldnt matter what the output side is.
