Hi, I have been having a problem with my sound for a LONG time and finally decided to figure it out.

I have both a Phillips and I just got a Memorex BluRay player.  I have the BluRay now plugged into a Samsung DLP TV through HDMI and have a digital coaxial cable hooked into a yahama 5.1 reciever.  I have had the same problem when I have had the BluRay and the Upconverter Phillips DVD player hooked in the same way.

I don't have the surround sound hooked in because I haven't had the time to run wires so currently I have two large Audiofile speakers plugged into the surround sound.

My problem is that the background music is nice and loud but the talking is very weak.  So weak I just listen to the sound through the TV.  Also, I have noticed that I have an echo between the TV and the speakers.

I don't know if one of these are my problem.
A) I don't have an expensive Coaxial or HDMI cable.
B) I only have two speaker plugged into a 5 speaker system.
C) Should I go optical sound?  Will that make a difference?
D) I am waaaaaaaaaaaaay off on all my thinking!

THanks in advance.

Option B is the most obvious answer. If you're running a 5.1 or 7.1 output from a DVD/Blu Ray into an amp and selecting Dolby Digital or True HD but only have 2 speakers then you will be missing out on all speaking since that is typically through the centre front channel.

By echo I'm guessing it's simply the audio from the amp and TV are out of sync, this is perfectly normal if you play both together since the TV can have a slight delay due to the signal processing.
