Recently my parents purchased a Sony Bravia tv for the spare room and i am having major hassles setting the bloody thing up. Normally i am not technically challenged but this time .......

We have: TV, Saturn digital box top and pioneer dvd recorder. NO external aerial connection, only saturn cable. tv is in spare room and old tv ran off bunny ears.

I have got the saturn running thru the video input so that tv can be watched (cant get standard tv as no external aerial)
I have got the dvd hooked up to the TV and can happily watch DVD's
What i really really want is to record...... I test recorded yesterday and got snow and static as it is recording off the tv which i cant get working.
Is it possible to record off video input? Any ideas on how to get tv? (on tv channel)

Not familiar with the Saturn STBs but if they have more than one set of AV outs run some RCA cables from the STB to your recorder and then RCA cables to your tellie.

Alternatively if the recorder has AV passthrough you can go STB-Recorder-TV.

Otherwise you will need to hook the bunny ears up to the recorder.

Two ways to do this.

The Saturn box should have two sets of AV outputs one above the other. Depending on the Saturn box one may have s-video while hte other does not. Use the s-video one to go to the TV (Best picture). Use the second set to plug into the DVD recorder you will then be able to record from the line in on the DVD recorder however only the channel that the Saturn box is set to.

The second option is to plug the TV aerial style connector on the Saturn box into the aerial in plug on the DVD recorder. Then tune in on the DVD recorder. You should finish up with all the free to air channels as seperate channels and one channel that will be whatever the Saturn box is set to at the time. This way you can record any of those channels without needing to set the Saturn box to that channel however if you want to record something from the channel that is not free to air you will have to set the Saturn box to that channel.

The downside to using the second option is that you will be getting the analogue feed which is not widescreen.

If you need a third av feed, then I found that bunnings sell a set of AV leads with rca to rca for conecting to tv, but one set of the rca plugs has a socket on it, for a 2nd set of leads.
