A problem with W7 and the BSE epg tool.  I’m using sky. Hopefully it will be something small I’ve missed...as it was about 3 years ago when i set it up in MCE, and about 6 months ago setting up VMC....

In a nutshell, using the bse tool I can manually assign the channels but there is no data included.

Steps I've taken.

Clean W7 RC build.

Using SKY stb

TV Tuner setup:  Selected satellite.

Set up tuners (HVR 2200) but just set up one at this stage because selecting both would lead to an “IR Hardware” failure on account of their only being one lead from my blaster to the stb.  Deselecting one of the HVR2200 tuners fixed it.

Installed BSE, using haventech online as source (http://www.haventech.co.nz/epg/epg.xml)

Tried with defaults, but disabled inband epg data.

BSE tool works fine, goes through the two steps when I run it from within the BSE tool.

Go into W7. Only 999 blank channels when I edit channels in W7 (Tasks/Settings/TV/Guide/Edit)

However, if I edit from within the guide then there are the sky channels starting at 1000.

Manually applying those channels doesn’t work.

Tried a W7 Media Center Reset.
No luck.

Tried ticking the two boxes in the Advanced section of BSE tool (forgotten off hand but in relation to including channel references).

No luck.

Left those boxes ticked and manually assigned the channels in the Channels tab of the bse tool.  (Just edited the top left of the 4 boxes from the default of -1 to the relevant channel.)

Still only showing 999 channels in w7, but by manually assigning each to the channels in W7 I can get the channel names to each channel, but there is no data.  (Again, there's still only 999 blank channels unless I edit from the guide.)

I've had a good hunt around these forums as well as xpmce but haven't had any luck.  Hopefully it's something simple.....the benefits of the great photo screensaver on W7 can only tide me over in terms of WAF factor for so long!

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Sorry can you just confirm. The Sky channels are working? ie if you switch to a sky channel it does play the feed from the channel?

Also you need to go though and move the channels to the location you want before setting up BSE. BSE will not setup the channel numbers for you it will only attach the epg data to each channel.

Personally I left the channel numbers blank in BSE and then just pulled them in by editing the channels one at a time. The advantage I found was that the epg data does not have a number so you know you are using the BSE data and not the inband data.

Thanks for this.
Yes, the Sky Channels are working - there's just no epg data.
When you say you need to move the channels before setting up BSE: I don't quite follow. Are you suggesting I first ignore (uncheck) most of the 999 channels and just leave the 70 of so i have coming through sky? i.e. leave 1, 2, 3, 4 (for Prime), 11 for E!, etc.? But this is essentially what (I think) I have done. Happy to try anything though!
I'll try another reset and then leave only the 70 or so in the W7 guide (blank at this stage), then try and import from BSE and then manually assign them within W7.

Did you change any of the bse defaults?

Also, is there a way to check what data BSE is actually exporting to W7?

Thanks

Other then ticking the channels I wanted BSE to download the data for I think I left everything else as defaults.
As for moving the channels yes sorry not quite what I should have said. Just make sure you untick the channels that are not used. Then run the import and assign the EPG data to the correct channels. If you are only using the STB (no freeview) then the easy way to know if you are using the BSE data is that there will be data.
When you run the download in BSE then the dos window that opens should show the amount of data that it has downloaded ready to import.
Have you followed though the documentation that came with the earlier version of BSE?

I'll try tonight again.

The BSE tool does report that it's exported 70-odd channels and the two BSE steps seem to work.  It first fetches data, then I click continue and eventually i get the "Done" option.  (The dos window needs to be manually closed after the msg that publishing stats is done).

As for the 0.3 version guide - I have that and while I want to say I've followed it I think all I can say is that at this stage I *think* I have.

It's all very odd that my manual edit listings don't work.  I know in MCE and VMC it took a while for MC to update the guide.  I'm sure I've tried reboots along the way but perhaps not between an important step.

But the weird thing is is that I can get the channel names to stick to each channel in W7, but not the data...which makes me think perhaps that's not making it across in the export from BSE.

I'm going to have another crack tonight.

Cheers

In keeping with my MCE and VMC guide experiences, it was something simple (although not entirely sure why it didn't work). The solution was to downloaded the xml file from haventech and point BSE at the local file. I could then manually assign the channels in W7 and this time the data was included.

Not sure why using the url in BSE didn't work, but given the speed with which BSE processed it (and noting that the local file included far more data than when using the url - which included a number of channels but perhaps limited data), I wonder if BSE was processing the data before the page had fully loaded?

In any event, it's up and running. However, it would be good to use the url rather than having to manually download it. Any thoughts on why it wasn't working?

Thanks for the pointers - they were all helpful in terms of narrowing down the issue.

Hmm strange. I am using the haventech url without any issues. Sorry no idea why you would be having issues using the url and not the downloaded file.
