Building a htpc , got a motherboard that supports upto 16Gb of ram but only has 2 ram slots , i want to make my pc 8gb but cant find any 4gb sticks , i know samsung can make a 4gb ddr2 stick but where o buy?

I have A-Data ram in my main desktop and it has served well.

my HTPC running windows 7 (RTM as of now) has 1.5GB Ram..... not much need for more either :P

There are certainly some advantages to having 8GB of RAM in a HTPC.

1. When you look at the freemem graph you get to see 7 GB free. Us normal plebs with 2GB only get to see around 800k-1GB or so free (maybe even less if you use onboard video). This certainly maximises headroom for those RAM intensive HTPC applications such as buffering.

2. You can create a RAM disk to buffer your recording buffer. This will increase buffering performance by at least 7000%.

3. While recording 4 channels at once, you will have 7GB free. This maximises the available recording headroom. It will smooth out the record buffer digitally, and allow for the maximum/minumum underlay recording module to function more smoothly.

4. It will make your Monster HDMI cables perform better, having the extra RAM headroom increases high end HDMI performance by a factor of 47.62% when measured on a Monster grade oscillograph diomeasurearamadoda.

But seriously - 8GB, in a HTPC??? Why???

Just out of interest what motherboard is it? and which operating system are you using?
