Now i am not as sharp as most appear to be technically so be patient as i explore.

Problems is my Inspiron 530s desktop was put on standby and i can restart it?

Light on the power button is amber, only will switch off when i hold it for a while .. when i push power button to restart .. its stays amber, screen stays blank.

Unplugging doesnt change it ...

i cant get in to to comp!! how do i restart?

The fact you have no screen at POST -the first image that appears after pressing the start button: either a logo or computer information- could be a number of things, from pretty easy to fix, like the memory or graphics card partially lifted out of its socket, to a piece of hardware failure.

Is it still under warranty? I would check the PC's support website first. If you have no luck, & don't want to spend money to have a professional look at it, then there are a number of execellent websites dedicated to those who aren't PC repairers, like myself.

PCMechanic
is one I use to use when things went wrong. Also, NZPCWorld's forum is excellent. You will probably get a better reply rate there, as it is a more appropriate forum for your issues. This is more dedicated to assisting with HTPC-specific queries & hardware selections. All the best with your issue.

Thanks .. i got it checked out by Focus in Manukau (really friendly and good service) and it was the graphics card overheated and the fan was melted .. i got a replacement from PB technologies and replaced it and my reply and thanks is being conveyed through the said comp .. so its worked .. thank you for that advise of PCMechanic, i shall find that useful.
