Hey guys

Me again

Ive got my whole HTPC set up and running with EPG and everything

My qustion is, is it possible to view live tv on a laptop without tv tuner,

The laptop is also running w7 rtm and is on the same network as htpc

Yep :) as long as your HTPC has a tuner and i'm guessing it does :)

Goto the media centre on your HTPC and setup the Tuner.
On your laptop, simply goto media centre, choose recorded TV and TV, goto Live feed and boom :) bingo you are in

Hey you instrucitons are not clear,sorry but i dont understand how i get into 'live feed'

im using windows 7 media center

Um, a little vague sorry, goto:

On your HTPC
- The TV Tab

Then Live TV setup :)
Click next on the first screen
It'll ask you for your net connection, choose that first
Then choose tuner, it'll automatically detect and should scan for channels
Then click next and finish

test that it's working by click the TV tab and then watching a few channels

Goto your laptop
Goto media centre
click on TV
Click on live TV setup
verify internet connection
then it should detect your TV tuner in the other PC

If it doesn't make sure:
- Your router isn't somehow blocking media sharing
- Both Pcs have to be in the same Workgroup/Homegroup

Also make sure you are using "Windows Media Centre" and not "Windows Media Player" :)

If that works tell me :) I'm currently at work so unable to try it out right now, but I know my windows 7 RTM is working with my Xbox360 at home. Haven't tested it because my main PC runs Vista 64 still :P

But I might take my work laptop home and test it out. If that doesn't work um try searching for Orb. it's a web based Extender which I used on my WinXP 64bit(I didn't have XP MCE at the time)

Sorry if my explanations sound a bit weird or don't make sense, i'm tired at the moment. Might rewrite them tomorrow after a good sleep

no matter what, i still cant get it to work, port forwarding or not , ive done it
i go to media center and set up live tv on my laptop cannot find the tuner on my HTPC

Do you have another extender you could test it with? like an XBox360?
Or have you tried the Webguide plugin above?

you can use an XBOX as a media center extender, but not another PC.

With homegroups, you can connect to media - but not Live TV. Only way you can connect to another TV Tuner over the network is using an HDHomeRun or similar.

Last i looked, WebGuide did not work with either Vista+TV Pack patch or Windows 7

So another box running Win7 can be used as an extender? I didn't think that was possible. Does it have to be set in an extender mode? And can you get the EPG etc on it? Probably still cheaper to get a Xbox360 to do the job though.

No, you cannot use another Win7 machine as an extender. Win7 does make it easier to share your content, such as recorded TV, between machines though.

Webguide is no longer being developed and does not work with Win7.

There has been talk of a mesh version of Webguide, but we'll have to wait and see if that eventuates.

Damn that sucks a lot :(

I was going to upgrade my current 3 systems all to win 7 from XP, Xp64 and Vista 64 :(
I really hope they can get an upgrade to the plugins or at least enable MCX support :(
