I would like to be able to convert my recorded WTV files in W7MC to another format (like AVI) that uses less space and is playable on other devices (like my PS3 in another room). I am using MC with Freeview Satellite (if it matters).

Is there an easy and free way to do this?

Have you tried Windows Movie Maker 2? It didn't work for a freeview terrestrial WTV file I had but satellite may be different.

I tried it, and it seemed to work okay - although it took a very long time to convert just a 30 min recording, so I wouldn't want to do my entire collection. But thanks for the suggestion.

you can right click on them and convert them to .dvr-ms, then use any program that is compatible with this to convert to other format as these are more common

This doesn't work for H.264 encoded files though (ie Freeview|HD recordings, regardless of whether the content is true HD or HD upscaled). Windows Movie Maker will convert these files to WMV.

ok that is a good thing to note, but as he is using Freeview Satellite they will have no problem with HD content
