This card comes with the hauppauge remote control and IR receiver that plugs into the back of the pci card. Vista, works fine, loads a program called ir.exe and sits in the tray happily decoding commands.

Install windows 7 and it doesnt work. Ive googled my heart out, visited the manufactures support sites, and scroll through these forums and Im about to go very inventive on installing the software but just want to check to see if anyone has already solved this problem or can point me in the direction of someone who has a solution.

Ohhh, I just upgraded to Windows 7 and over the weekend I found I had the same problem, same tuner card & all. Be interesting to see if it can be made to work.

I had a similar problem recently with the Hauppauge HVR-3000 after moving from XP to Windows 7. First things first: is your Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit? Apparently the 64-bit support from Hauppauge is pretty patchy currently, so I'd stick to 32-bit Windows.

The shortcut that IR.exe puts in the start menu is "IR.exe /quiet" which supresses error messages. Go to Explorer and run it from there (in /Program Files/WinTV/IR.exe). This will give you any error messages in a dialog box. When I ran IR.exe after installing it, I got an error dialog saying "Failed to initialize Infrared Remote Hardware" or similar.

Here's what worked for me:

- Visit the Hauppauge website (http://hauppauge.co.uk/site/support/support_support.html). Find the drivers for your card. I downloaded both the full WinTV CD (ver 1.2c) and the "Driver Only" package. Extract them out somewhere.

- From the Driver Only package, run HCWCLEAR and remove all the Hauappauge drivers ("Total Removal"). If you actually use WinTV (!), I'd back up your WinTV directory before running this.

- Reboot the system.

- After reboot, reinstall the drivers using the "Driver Only" package. Don't install anything from the WinTV CD.

- Reboot

- Install the IR receiver software directly from the WinTV CD. The installer's called IR.exe and it's in the IR subdirectory of the WinTV CD package. *Don't* run the Setup wizard from the CD; it kept asking me where the real WinTV CD was, which I didn't have.

- Reboot

At some point, Windows did pop up a dialog box saying it'd found some new hardware, an IR receiver, but I couldn't tell you when in the process that happened.

Why not just get a media center remote and IR receiver then use Windows 7 Media Center.

I have Nova-T-500 and it works with media center and Microsoft drivers from Windows update.

Thanks for that detailed reply Buzzy, it is 32bit, Im not at all game for 64bit yet. I will follow your process. At the moment windows update is demanding I install an update to the driver and then fails each time but i will ignore that. I have followed a similar track as you but not in the same order as I think I read your post possibly on the Hauppauge website but I will give it a try.

Browned, Thanks thats my backup plan. But it worked fine in vista and I just sold my MCE remote and usb dongle on trade me and I like media portal that has great hauppauge remote support I thought I would try to get it to work first :)

Mine is working fine now after running the IR32.EXE setup from my installation CD. I'd already tried the rest of it (downloading 1.2C etc), but doing that seems to have done the trick for me. Thanks for the tip. BTW, this is on 64-bit Win7 as well so no problems there.

Can you tell me what version ir32.exe you used lurker? Do you get a failed windows update for a hauppauge ir receiver still?

The IR32.EXE on my CD ("version 5.1") says it's version 2.57.26021. And no problems installing it at all.

For me, when I did my Windows 7 install I already had an IR device showing in my device manager but the remote didn't function at all in MediaPortal. In the MediaPortal tab for the Hauppauge remotes, it told me the drivers couldn't be found (telling me to run the CD or something), and I couldn't tick-select the Hauppauge remote at all. I ran the 1.2C drivers from the Hauppauge site, but that didn't change anything. But the IR32.EXE from my CD fixed things and I was subsequently able to tick the relevant boxes for my remote.

Thanks, Ill go looking for my original cd and if not try and track down that version. In my device manager I get on efunctioning device and 2 that failed driver install. Does yours work in Media player as well. Can you use the MCE button to launch media centre form the desktop.

Still working on it Buzzy, lurker has been helping me out. Im still trying different combinations. To add to my troubles windows 7 discovered the imon ir recevier in my antec fusion case. ill update for sure thanking everyone when I finally crack the code or set fire to the case whatever happens first :).
